Well, that kinda says it all. My brother has suggested that we (2 bros & 2 sisters + spouses) should all plan a vacation down south together!I’m having visions…of a cross between a ‘horror’ movie & a ‘Chevy Chase’ vacation movie.I’m serious. As much as we love each other and we all live close by…we’re so very different…I just can’t see it working.Do you guys prefer to travel to the tropics with your spouse, friends or family?? I’m starting to feel guilty because of what is ‘expected’ of me (oldest child syndrome)

We have done a lot of traveling with family members BUT, they are people we can travel with quite happily. My group consists of 4 couples who get along and don’t want, or expect, to live in each other’s pocket while on vacation. On the other hand, there are family members that we would never vacation with just because we know they would expect to be "together" 24/7 :P. Everyone has to be on the same page regarding what you expect out of the vacation before you make any bookings. Everyone has to agree on the accommodations and what they expect of the accommodations, same for the destination and available activities. Most important, IMO, are you all compatible? Seriously, 1 person, in the group, can make or break your vacation! On the other hand, if the group is compatible, family vacations can be wonderful experiences such as the many we have been lucky to have taken.

If you have even the slightest reservations about a joint vacation, then don’t do it!Cheers,

We are 6 siblings, and decided that 4 couples would plan a vacation together. Well…it was the most "freakin’ fun" I’ve ever had! A once in a lifetime trip, that I’m so happy I took part in. We are ALL different, but decided that we would do our own thing and maybe meet up for supper(if we wanted to) Well, it seemed that if one wanted an excersion or shopping trip, we all did, we planned which a la carte sounded good for dinner and everyone joined. We had huge laughs at each others expences and I hope you go through with the trip with your family!

Well … ???…we had a chat about the trip to the Caribbean this weekend. 2 want to go, 2 don’t. So..we’re putting it off…indefinately.I suggested we go on a long weekend summer trip next summer (maybe over the Cabot Trail in our beautiful province of NS)…they all seemed to like that idea.So..’The Sibling Saga Down South" for now is sunk in the water. At least on a 3-4 day road trip together we’ll have more in common..we all love nature & hiking and the sea…sounds wonderful!

Sounds like a good idea

As I mentioned, earlier, when going on an extended vacation with others, you really have to be on the same page. If anyone in the group is sending up any kind of negative vibes, you will probably have a problem. Good luck with your road trip.

The two couples that want to go can still go, the two that don’t will just stay home. I would love to go on vacation with my brothers. Now if I could just convince one of them the get rid of his albatros…..

Took the parents (80) down south two years ago. Had the best trip ever. Pick a large resort, everyone can go there own way.

Enjoy

True – try it with family, but don’t get rooms right next to each other. Plan a few things to do together, but spend time on your own. Meet for breakfast, or supper, etc.
