Anyone know of a good place that offers golf as part of their AI?? We have been to BRB, and would like to try somewhere else…any and all suggestions appreciated.

hi missme – the Melia Las Americas & Breezes in Varadero, Cuba offer unlimited green fees – you pay the cart fee of $55 CUC. For the past few years we have been going to Puerto Vallarta staying at the Golden Crown Paradise and they have the same deal – unlimited green fees at three championship courses in the area – cart fees are $58.00US per person. I have heard there are a few resorts in the DR that offer golf packages, but haven’t researched that area, so can’t tell you which ones.

Hey missme, not sure if you’re still looking or not, but the Gran Bahia Tulum/Akumal/Coba, offer free green fees with a $65US cart rental. Brand new course last looks very nice. We’ll be trying it out for two weeks next April.

Hi Missme,We go twice a year at the Melia Cozumel golf course is across the street the price will be golf AI plus $30.00 for the cart for has many hole you want to play.Hope this help

TO add to this I read that you have to have a caddy at the Gran Bahia Tulum/Akumal/Coba.We reserved the "Golden section" at GBP Akumal and the specs indicate that the cart is included…Does anyone know if we have any additional charges?If we have a caddy does this means that they drive the cart? what is the expected tip after 18 holes?Apparently the new course is pristine.

Hi ald1, I have been in contact with the resort regarding the charges for the AI golf, and there was never any mention of a caddy being required. For those staying on the resort (Tulum, Akumal or Coba), it is $65US per person for cart rental, and $45US for club rental. They also have shoes if you want, or you can wear sneakers.

I wonder if you are a guest at Gran Bahia Principe resorts if they charge your room and you pay at the end of the trip or pay as you go at the golf club? Anyone know?

I have seen other posters claim they could not charge anything to their rooms, but didn’t we used to charge wine when we went out for supper? I hope you can remember, it’s kind of blurry for me……or maybe you treated us, our turn this time I guess.

Hi everyone! we were there in November – December 2010. No charge to the rooms, $65 per person (they call it a cart fee, so I had assumed it was per cart, my partner straightened me out on that one).If you book at the course, you can get earlier times than if you book at guest services. Appropriate clothing is necessary – collared shirt for men and collared shirt if sleeveless or sleeves with no collar ok for women. My partner is a golf pro and I am a beginner – he thought the course was beautiful and challenging. I had a great time, though certainly lost my share of balls (luckily I am not picky and found a fair number too). Do be careful of walking around in the undergrowth – some trees bite (with sharp spikes), there are snakes and … I am sure there are other scary things hiding there as well.You can buy balls (used) from the caddy master and various other people, I think it was a dollar a ball (I brought enough of my own by my partner isn’t used to losing balls and had to buy some. He bought 12 pro-v and was able to use 5 – all he needed).The shuttle seemed to always be late and that cut into our practise time – several times we didn’t practise. If you demand 5 minutes to hit some balls because the shuttle was late, they will usually let you.Waiting for the late shuttle – I would make the bellhop call as soon as they were 5 minutes late and again at 15 minutes late. That usually helped. It is SO hot, we drank A LOT of water, the beverage cart person comes around 3 – 4 times a round and there is a cooler on the cart (make sure you have ice to start the round with). The beverage cart has some breakfast or lunch type foods, chips, choco bars, juice, pop, water and beer. Tips didn’t seem to help for service (though we always tipped), but they did help with the marshall who took wonderful care of us.If you book an early tee time, the pace of play is quicker, be sure to keep up!

Hello all: Though I haven’t been back since my last note, I have been researching and there are some changes.The price for the "free" golf has gone up. The cart fee is now $80 from December to April and $65 until Christmas time (after the 22nd of December) 2012. Also the beverage cart used to provide snacks, water, juice, soda, beer and sandwiches. Now they include "Snacks y beverage included are bottle of water , soft drinks , Chips, Peanuts and small chocolates" Beers and sandwiches and other drinks are available for payment. In the past there has been a reduced cart fee for twilight (I think it starts at about 1 pm). This past Jan – April it was $65 instead of $80. |
