My favourite part of travelling is shopping for alcohol as a souvenir. Not because I’m a candidate for Betty Ford, but rather I love to have unusual stuff not available in Canada. There was no room on the poll for "I’ve turned into that annoying person that asks if you can bring back a bottle and I’ll give you the money beforehand but here’s my list of nine bottles and any one will be just fine". Yes, I have no shame. ![]() Would love to hear your purchasing styles and what you have bought, if you have liked it, and would you buy it again? |

We always bring back higher-end vodkas, we find it’s the best saving $$$-wise. |

I have a nice collection of vodka – Chopin is quite lovely, as is Grey Goose. Boyd & Blair potato vodka is nice, and although I have not opened the bottle, Crystal Head vodka in the glass skull bottle is exquisitely beautiful to look at. Made in Canada, but not available in Ontario because the skull is too much for poor Ontarians to handle. Truth! | |
As a rum and dos ice drinker and new to mexico, what would be suggested? |
|
anejo tequila can be as soft as a fine aged rum – your bartender can advise you.
also, a paloma is fresca and tequila on ice – refreshing! |

Drink, Rum and Scotch. Sorry, for me no Tequila. Is there a good aged rum served in the resorts, made in Mexico? |
|
Not that I am aware of, but they have lots of Havana Club and Bacardi.
Try a sip of an aged tequila and see what you think – most people remember Tequila as the vile yellow bottle of Cuervo that they drank too much of 18 and spent the night retching their insides out. |

One tequila I recommend trying is Clase Azul Reposado – the bottle is a blue and white ceramic one, looks like a fancy huge pepper mill, with a silvery rounded knob on the top. This is delicious – about 80 for a 750 ml, but you can get the 200 ml bottle for around $22 bucks; try it one afternoon while watching the sunset, and then you will probably want to buy the large bottle at the Duty Free when you leave MX. Best enjoyed from a snifter. |
