I have read some posts from another board from people who have just stayed there and have not had any bad experiences. The hotel is only at 50% occupancy while they repair the sewage system. The Allegro is a little isolated so make sure you get out of the hotel and do some exploring. Arenal Volcano, Rincon Zip Lines, Palo Verde River & wildlife tour, fishing, snorkeling and horseback riding. Witches Rock canopy is only 10 minutes from the Allegro and is a great canopy tour. I took my sons there last week, again, and they loved it. Buy your coffee in areas like Playa Coco or while out on tours, cheaper than at the hotel. To see where your hotel is located in reference to local towns see – www.costarica-realestate.com/costa-rica%20information.htm

Just came back and everything seems to be completed and under control. There is an occasional aroma on the east side, however nothing serious. The walk along the deserted beach is wonderful, be sure to bring some shoes to cross a few rocky areas and wade over some streams. You will likely see puffer fish, skates, beach and hermit crabs. We paid for the upgraded ocean view which meant two extra flights of stairs but the incredible balcony view over the pool and Papagayo Bay was well worth it! The walkways between buildings are steep but you get used to it. No worse than San Francisco hills. A great, isolated place to vacation.
