I have to take 3 or 4 books with me this upcoming trip.I know the hotel we are staying at (same as last year) was sorely lacking in any english paperbacks.
Any recommendations for a few nice ‘beach reads’….I like pretty well anything except ‘sappy romance’….bios, historical sagas, mysteries, courtroom drama, thriller, whathaveyou….

I usually like to bring along various vacation magazines/guides and read up on other country destinations that I may travel to in future trips.

I like to keep it lighthearted on vacations (learned that the hard way after bringing Death of a River Guide to the Dominican one year – seriously, how did I not see that ending coming, it’s right in the title!) so I enjoy authors like Bill Bryson (I just about needed Depends reading In a Sunburned Country), Tim Dorsey and Janet Evanovich (the Stephanie Plum series, not the romances).

Mystery and suspense for me and I’ve already got my e-reader loaded up and ready to go. I’ve got some of my favourite writers and their latest works: Lee Child (Jack Reacher), Louise Penny (Cdn. writer), Olen Steinhauer (of The Tourist series). I really enjoy British mysteries and am hoping to find an Ian Rankin that I haven’t read and can down load. I’ve just started reading "Midwinter Sacrifice" by Mons Kallentoft, a Swedish writer and am quite enjoying it. He has a beautiful way with words that pull you into the book.

Haven’t been on this site forever (it seems) but we love our e-readers. We like to keep our beach reads on the lighter side and I’ve been enjoying the Chelsea Lately books. I think she has about 6 of them and, to me, they are pretty hilarious. |
