Although I only had one night at this wonderful hotel (due to a mix-up with the hotel I had booked, Los Frailes), I still have fond memories from my April, 2006 stay: a warm and welcoming staff, a unique atmosphere. Arriving late at night, the desk person gave me the option of going through the registration formalities in the morning–which I accepted. My room was spacious, the hot shower just what I needed after the long ViAzul ride from Santiago de Cuba. Next morning I had a relaxing breakfast in the courtyard, which I shared with the resident parrot! Though in the midst of Vieja, the Beltran de Santa Cruz is very calm and restful: I immagined myself stepping back in time to when the Count of Jaruco resided there and entertained the great German naturalist Alexander von Humbolt as his guest. Someday, I’d love to bring my wife back here for a "second honeymoon!"
