Hi,This is going to be our first all inclusive vacation. Leaving from Montreal. It’ll be the 2 of us, 2 kids (11 and 5) and my mom. Any tips, dos, don’ts and particularly any tour info? We would like to take a couple of tours, the arts & crafts and mayan one. Any idea how much these are? Any info would be greatly appreciated. ;D

Do not take the volcano tour with your kids ( also know as the walk of death :-X)Mayan tour is OK, I think it was about $50

Yes we’re thinking Mayan tour should be ok, it seems that it’s not that difficult and I believe the Arts & Craft tour should be fun. Although not quite sure of what to expect or prices of the actual items for sale. I was also wondering if they take Traveller’s Cheques at the hotel or should I do credit card instead?

Just take a credit card as El Salvador uses the US dollar for their country currency so it’s easy to do the conversion in your head.

We did both the Mayan tour and the arts & crafts excursion. The Mayan trip was the El Salvador version, the trip to Honduras is a 5 hour bus ride – each way!We stopped at 4 different sites, each quite different and interesting. Might be a bit dull for the kids, and there is a fair bit of walking, so consider your Mom’s mobility.The Arts & Crafts was well worth the trip, 4 different villages, we went on Sunday which is market day so very interesting to see the local markets and crafts. I can’t remember the cost off hand, but we felt was worth the price. Includes a nice lunch in a local restaurant. Very good guides on both trips, and you get a police escort for security as well.Let me know if you had any other questions!

Thanks! I’ll give them a call. Another question, they keep occurring to me as we get closer. Has anyone had issues of stuff disappearing from their safe? We’re thinking of bringing cash only, no credit cards, which would me over $1000 in the safe, would you recommend that or would you think it’s just safer to go with credit cards and a small amount of money? The exchange is so horrible and we have US cash that we’d rather take that. What about cameras and stuff too? Have people had to worry about theft on the resort?

I’ve not heard of items disappearing from the room safe, nor items left on chairs at the pool, beach etc.Mind you, I wouldn’t leave an expensive camera sitting around while I was in the pool either. More worried about tourists than locals.You might consider buying US dollar travellers cheques with your US cash. There might be a small fee to cash them onsite, but you could cash what you need as needed and much safer than cash in the off chance they go astray. We found that apart from the excursions, we didn’t need a great deal of cash in country.Rule of thumb would be same as at home – you wouldn’t walk around flashing cash nor should you on the resort. |
