Bubba Mugs…some resorts not filling – General Travel Questions Dominican Republic – Debbie's Carribean Reviews Forums

Even if you’re sitting at the pool bar they’ll give you a new cup every time you order a drink. It’s very wasteful.

In their defense, they (Sirenis) are very jealous of their Cristal food serving procedures awards. That system would preclude reusing glasses because of the possibility of cross contamination. It’s the same thing at the buffet. They want you to get a clean plate ecah time you go back. Unfortunately, because of this system they did away with the lovely beach BBQ they used to have. They couldn’t control the food temperatures to Cristal’s standards.
As for the lack of bubba mugs, it’s just another excuse to go chat up the bar maid … ;D

Those half gallon drink vats are for those that would probably bring a tent to a buffet. Really, is anyone going to die if they have to walk to the bar for 20 oz.s at a time. I have seen many many people dump their vat on the beach.

I don’t blame the resorts a bit for refusing to fill a 60 oz container for one person unless it is water and ice .
The little plastic glasses are not 20 oz.

I was referring to the 20 oz thermal mugs and how some people want to fill up the 64 ozers and then dump it after it gets too warm.
Before the hate mail starts , I am NOT referring to the ice and water crowd, just to the slobs that wastes the drinks

Thanks Bob. I didn’t even consider the health angle. That huge Stanley Cup-esque Food Safety Award trophy in the lobby is one reason we like going there.

20 ounce Stainless steel interior mugs are more than adequate and holds more than 1 pint. – 16 oz = 1 pint.

Tried and tested – stainless steel interior mugs are more efficient versus the plastic interior.

We like our beer no doubt and sometimes dump the last mouth full with the 30 degrees+ temp, beer does get warm and flat, just can’t image 54 or 60ounces.

16 onz = 2 cusp or 1 pint thus 54 ounce = 6.75 cups or 3.35 pints

When it is my turn to get the 16 ouncers filled – I find it somewhat embarrassing :-[.

IMHO they are making money but filling the bubbas might only increase the price of our future vacations.

Me dos pesos

The Domingos – do you find your beer doesn’t get flat so quickly in your stainless steel mug and stays “colder” longer than in a plastic one?

Something I’ve always pondered. :-*

Bob, do you mean zealous?

I have to say keeps the drinks colder longer but still gets flat after a bit…

just home from the Melia Caribe, and my 52 Bubba was filled with beer very happily, and of course there was NO waste

of course there was NO waste

And we wouldn’t have expected anything less of you ;D.

The reason may be that the person who looks after the costs and the ordering has notice an increase in the amount ordered which is an increase in the costs to the resort resulting in less profit since the Bubba hit the scene…
The reason may be that the person who looks after the costs and the ordering has notice an increase in the amount ordered which is an increase in the costs to the resort resulting in less profit since the Bubba hit the scene…
Can’t agree with you on this point. Just think, how much would it cost the resort, if you drank a 40 oz of their rum every day. Somewhere between $25.00 and $50.00, less. I know we like to “brag” a bit when talking about how much we can drink, but I for one could not drink that much. Possibly 1-2 40oz per week, so my bar tab would be in the $10.00 range plus mix. Don’t think that would matter to their bottom line

theoldmillwright 2008-04-23 13:12:50 UTC #33

The rum maybe not, but the beer is the real costly one to a resort.

runner1 2008-04-24 17:20:38 UTC #34
The rum maybe not, but the beer is the real costly one to a resort.
OK, you have got my curiousity up. Why would beer be that expensive for the resorts? (theoldmillwright-I’m not try to be argumentive, just don’t understand why it would be so expensive-I would personally think the food waste would be far more that the beer costs.)

ncognito 2008-04-24 18:58:21 UTC #35

I would think that the cost of the plastic cups adds up pretty quick too.

Would this work?..All guests receive a cheap insulated plastic mug during check in. They can use this mug all week at all the bars. If they lose they mug or would just like a second one they can buy them at the front desk for $2.00. That would cut down on having to bring your own mugs and also cut down on the plastic cups lying on the beach each morning.

obxbum 2008-04-24 19:20:09 UTC #36

I actually think that sounds like a great idea! Very surprised one of the “big guys” PR departments hasn’t come up with this plan yet! The advertising $$$ alone would be HUGE!

southernnber 2008-04-24 20:27:39 UTC #37

PC Mike… How about the idea … any merit to it … would the “big guys” buy into it?

Let us know what you think or what they think…

No no Runner it’s not an argument just a discussion, and I can see your point about food cost, but I was told that the beer cost were high at the resorts, a presidenti grande at a store is 65 pesos to what ever they can get, a bottle of good rum 700 or 750ml cost 230 peso’s so you can get a lot of drinks out of a bottle of rum, even how these guys pour some of there drinks, i really believe it will be a bean counter somewhere that has started this ban because of cost, can you be sure the bartender could not care less

ncognito 2008-04-24 22:56:03 UTC #39

I believe the free mug at check-in would be a great keep sake also. One side could have the resort logo, and the other side could be corporate sponsors, travel agencies, airlines etc. They would have to hold at least 16oz!

sjmmclark 2008-04-25 00:11:07 UTC #40

The Sirenis is now serving drinks in resuable plastic cups at the bars and disposable at the buffets. One guy walks around all day collecting cups to wash.
