Some resorts are now refusing to fill Bubba Kegs. This has been reported on a number of forums. Bahia Principe has apparently started refusing to fill in PUJ, others will soon follow suit.
Solution get 2 or 3 and load your own Bubba!

thats just crazy, ive never wasted a drink in my bubba, spilt lots in there little throw away glass, and if trying a new drink that i have never had before i always get it in there small glass to make sure i will like it,
i will do as WUD says order multiple drinks and will pure it right into my bubba right at the bar

We were already doing that on our last trip. The server would bring us each 2 or 3 cups instead of toting our thermal cups around. In Curacao Breezes stopped filling them after an altercation with an out of control guest.

By not filling the Bubba’s, they are causing tons more waste. As the world changes to conservation, they are going the wrong way.
hlywud 2008-04-14 16:47:22 UTC #5
I totally agree with the conservation idea, little plastic glases all over the beach, in the water a real mess, but the rationale that I read was the resorts felt many drinks were being wasted.
Now that is a real load of bull, I am like northernale1 and have never wasted any drink in my bubba and will continue to take them, and when not filled I will certainly let the management know that I will not be back.

I can see resorts choosing not to fill the 64 oz ones. I have a 20 ouncer and never had a problem in the DR or on Mexico.
sunny2 2008-04-14 21:10:55 UTC #7
Is it the huge Bubba Kegs they are refusing to refill or the regular thermal mugs that are of normal size? I can see why they would refuse to fill those huge kegs but not a simple mug.
Debbie_from_Winnipeg 2008-04-14 22:37:50 UTC #8
I just read a review from Eden that said people were getting their Bubbas filled from trays of drinks and leaving other people empty handed. It takes 6-7 drinks to fill those suckers!
I have personally seen drinks wasted with the 52 ouncers with people pouring them into the sand either due to their drinks becoming watery, beer going flat or they were just tired of their drink.
There’s Bubbas and then there are Bubbas.

When we were at the resort last month, I didn’t see anyone with bubba kegs when we were there so I was even a little timid with my alpine mug. I used mine once and then ended up just getting cups.

Those half gallon drink vats are for those that would probably bring a tent to a buffet. Really, is anyone going to die if they have to walk to the bar for 20 oz.s at a time. I have seen many many people dump their vat on the beach.
I don’t blame the resorts a bit for refusing to fill a 60 oz container for one person unless it is water and ice .

with lots of ice, i find the 34oz to be perfect
lovethesummer 2008-04-15 10:50:54 UTC #12
I haven’t had any trouble getting my 34 oz filled anywhere except for the NH in Cayo coco cuba…they wouldn’t even put ice and water in ??? ??? I always have mine filled with ice and water until around 3ish each day, last trip to Samana a woman called me gluton when she seen the bubba…I wanted to dump my ice water on her …but refrained >:(
bmnichol 2008-04-15 14:16:05 UTC #13
lovethesummer, I don’t know why holier than thou people just don’t keep their mouths shut when what someone else is doing has nothing to do with them. You should have dumped your ice water on her, sounds like she needed to be cooled down. Some of these people make you want to gag, bet there was no one sitting around counting her trips to the bar(s)!!!

Sorry but I would have said Biatch!! In response to her “glutton”. Brenda is right…who the HLL does she think she is ?? Self righteous, sanctimonious, pompous azz!
Whew…I feel better now…guess I need to vent! LOLOLOLOL

The little plastic glasses are not 20 oz.

no but the small bubba’s are. i think that is what they may of been refuring to?
Debbie_from_Winnipeg 2008-04-15 19:16:48 UTC #17
I keep hearing about these dinky little plastic cups, just how small are they and who are these resorts that uses them? My steel insulated 20 ouncer works great for me. If my mug isn’t handy I’ve always been served in the tall hard plastic tumbler type glasses that they throw into the dishwasher.
gorfio 2008-04-15 19:24:36 UTC #18
The Sirenis uses a 12 ounce disposable plastic cup. Otherwise, it’s either glass or china. No washable plastic drinkware on the property.
At the end of the day the trash cans are literally overflowing with them. Even if you’re sitting at the pool bar they’ll give you a new cup every time you order a drink. It’s very wasteful.
jackie 2008-04-15 20:01:17 UTC #19
Well, I have a 52 oz bubba mug, and I’ve never poured anything onto the sand. I make one trip to the bar while I’m at the beach, and then one more trip on my way back to the room. Not all people are pigs!!! Although I thought the comment about the “tent to the buffet” was pretty funny…
vipercheeka 2008-04-15 20:58:35 UTC #20
I just returned from BPSJ and had no problems with our Bubba’s, my hubbie a couple of times filled with the beer from the room and it took 1 can plus about 3/4’s of the second. I saw more people wasting drinks because there drink got too warm, and lots gt 2 drinks at a time (for themsleves) and sloshed have of them on the way to their seat.
I can see refusing the 50oz, but they should be encouraging people to bring their own mugs (infact they did sell insulated theraml mugs at the hotel on the strip )
