bugs at Decameron? | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

We will be travelling Feb 16-23 and I was wondering what the bug situation was like at the Decameron resort. Have been biten badly in both Cuba and the DR, but never in Mexico. I always travel with benadryl (cream and caps).

My husband and I were at the Salinitas last year for 2 weeks in February. I am a bug bite magnet and I am happy to report I left with only afew bites on me.

We’re departing the ‘evening’ you arrive.

Don’t the flight times suck this year?

Good to hear that the bugs aren’t too bad. The last couple of years I have been coming home with legs covered in bites.

They suck because we are not going this year ;D

I have a friend who has worked at the Decameron and she tells me that the management team have tried to spray the property as often as they can to get rid of this problem. For those who are going have a wonderful bite free vacation

Take Deeo Woods Off and A535 with the mentholatum…the bugs hate this stuff…if you have problems with ants pour out a package of fake sugar…such as Sweet n Low and just leave it ….24 hours later no ants. ;D

the only problem we had were some bugs in the sand, got some bites, but the people beside us got none

Someone recently told me that listerine works too… just spray some around the area you are occupying. I’m thinking the legs of the loungers might be a good idea. Are there loungers on the beach area?

carribean queen, looks like we will arrive your second week there. Can sure use the warm weather with this up and down cold weather we are getting this year.

bringing the epi pen for bees, and some deep woods off for mosquiots.. always seem to get the leg bites from the sand buggers…

Can’t wait 11 more days…

Going to have to try the ‘sweetener’ for ants. I am at the Decameron right now and there are teeny tiny ants in the room. I thought they were just in the bathroom, but I saw them on the shelves in the closet and even on top of the TV stand.

hi Bebbie, saw a few links about the fake sugar on iternet… not much info thou…. let me know how it works…Thanks

I would love to hear if the sweetener trick works…. I’ll just sprinkle some around my chair at the beach…

Don’t think it worked. We tried it, but it probably was not too much long after the chambermaid would of been in our room and cleaned. We just put it around on the bathroom counter. Not too sure if they are actually ants or some type of itsy bitsy insect. They are so tiny. We’ve also found them on the TV stand. If you bring your own mug —- clean them out right away. These bugs love them. I make sure I clean our mugs and I actually hang them up from a pant hanger.
If you bring insect repellent use it to spray around the area – seems to work. Noticed tonight that the chambermaids carry insect spray on their cleaning carts.
