Can you beat this deal | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

We have booked for one of our favourites. Two weeks at $528 each including tax. It may be $548 – but still a smoking’ deal. We’re going back to Galeones for our fifth or sixth time. We once did Costa Morena for a little bit less but the differences between the two are striking.Costa Morena is hooker’s haven, Galeones is a small. comfortable 32 room complex with easy access anywhere. Unless you need a close beach. The beach is close but coming back up those stairs – WHOO – wacked. But every trip is great.

This time the price is astronomical. How much do you pay? What is your best deal for a two week vacation. Or even for a 1 week vacation? I dare you all to beat this price for your favourite.

That’s an outrageous price. Have a gas.Cheers,Terry

As for the stairs… you come home with your butt in better shape than when you left… that’s a great deal too…

That is really good 2 weeks deal! I must admit that it is hard to beat. Usually 2 weeks is better deal than 1 week as you pay only once taxes so 1 week could be $400 tax included while 2 weeks is $550 only $150 for extra week at hotel. Glad that you found great deal and most probably you would spend more money on heat for your home than going to Cuba all inclusive with that price.

Terry, if you knew me you wouldn’t say that. If I get any smaller I will be an amoeba. No one would recognize a teeny person. You big he-men stand out; I just fade.

I would have been more inclined to grab that deal if it had been for one week. (one week is more expensive, go figure!!) I like Los Galeones and would love to go back. If it was Sunwing’s offering I would book it with the $50 cancellation insurance, but it’s HolaSun. I suppose for that price I could afford to blow it off if I couldn’t go, but two weeks is awkward for me at the moment. (and with single supplement it is slightly more). I have had lower prices for one week vacations, but not often!Considering the 299 steps to the beach, I found the gym equipment somewhat redundant!

Galeones steps to the beach

Nice score on price Sundog, have a great time there. Have you checked out the oyster farms or fresh oyster store at Aserradero about 20 kms back toward Santiago.

That is an awesome price. You can’t afford to stay home. We booked Los Galeones @ $838 about 2 weeks ago. I just checked again and it is still at that price. That is for departure Dec. 01 with Hola Sun via Selloff Vacations. They want $558 for just one week on Dec. 01.

(There are 297 steps and not much to do. It is not for everyone.)

Thats an amazing deal…and taxes in?..SO really like $250 for the two weeks plus tax! Now I am jealous of your trips!…hahaBest deal I ever had was $89 plus tax for 4 days…close to yours but not as good!

We don’t have as many options out of Atlantic Canada for sure…..

eeeefarm: I agree about the gym – I have NEVER seen anyone use it. They also have a sauna for heaven’s sake. The weather is hot and humid even for Cuba, they could have used the space for something else. The hot tub is still something that amazes me. It’s seldom used after the first day; when you’re perspiring I think you need to cool down, not cook.Flygt: I’ll have to look into Aserradero. I’ve never heard of it and I love oysters. Will definitely check it out and report back in.

One other thing, we were at LG in April this year – and they were putting in wi-fi. Sierra Mar apparently had their wi-fi up and running for a little while but it sorta fizzled. It will be great if it is working but I don’t expect it to be operable yet. Will find out when we arrive late November and report back on that issue as well. I haven’t started my countdown yet but Nov 26 can’t come soon enough.

eeeefarm: Loved the link to Galeones steps to the beach. After seeing that I realize where we frequent (Royal Decameron in Panama) the steps are nothing there in comparison.

Bebbie: we’ve been at RD in Panama. Boy that beach was hot. Did you go through Noriega’s house next door (if it still there, not sure). And I should say house, it was massive. And all cable everywhere. He had that place wired with more communications and security equipment than Fort Knox. Guest cottages, boat launches, garages, etc. And the mansion was absolutely ransacked. Apparently after he was arrested, his neighbours were so grateful, they were the ones who took it upon themselves to rid the area of his possessions and what they couldn’t get out, just destroy. I really liked the RD. Heard that it has expanded tremendously. But I guess I should mention Cuba since I’m on the Cuba Forum. Galeones is nothing like RD. Probably less than 1% of RD’s area.

Runs_with_scissors: Where was the picture taken? Galeones has put in some benches but they are on the left hand side as you are ascending the steps. And there are very few of them; and they are in direct sun with no shade what so ever. But you’re right, would drive prices up and money is never spent in Cuba. It’s all patch & paste in Cuba as you probably know. At least the road from Santiago is now finished (and how long did that take?). Can’t ask for miracles.

sund0g This is the view descending the steps. Hence the benches are on the right. It is the 90ish degree turn down to the beach after the relatively flat section between the two climbing sections.

Now that you said that, I can see the steps in the background. When did you take this shot? And it looks like there is a cable car above? The benches looked so familiar, because in April this year, I sat there on the way down. It was then I decided I’ll just go back up (used the excuse I had forgotten something – liar, liar, pants on fire.)

Ooh, you are sneaky! And the funny thing is we were there in December. And I was racking my brain about the cable car. I couldn’t remember any overhead cables at any of our visits. But for the benches (they’re pretty new – less than a year old I think). And I was confused because the railings seem to be missing. I know there are sections (or at least were) sections missing or loose or jerry rigged. But in April the railings were updated and painted (still too hot to touch in the sun). Thanks Runs_with_scissors. I just may have to take a half way trip down to the beach in November – at least as far as the benches. Maybe we can meet up at Galeones some day.

sund0g I believe we may have met during the first couple of weeks of last December? I was the guy with the sunglasses, shorts, t-shirt, hat and sandals.

lovecuba: Is that for 2 weeks? If so, that is fantastic. I can get to del Caribe and back home for our trip on Nov. 26. But what about the taxes – how much were they? When we booked we got $180 tax pax; we still got a deal at $348 + $180 tax and we grabbed it. I can’t believe I missed Varadero pricing. And lucky you, you only have 2 days to wait before you go. Who is your travel agent? Must call them next time. Those are the deals I’m always looking for.

Scissors: "sund0g I believe we may have met during the first couple of weeks of last December? I was the guy with the sunglasses, shorts, t-shirt, hat and sandals."I was the gal wearing glasses, shorts, t-shirt, no hat and sandals. Remember me? Didn’t think so.

Flygt: Thanks for that; I am going to try and get someone to go with me. There is not a lot of oyster lovers, and I want someone who will appreciate the trip. Hopefully if will be my better half. Wish me luck with that one!

Lots of deals this weekend out of TO to Varadeo for about $90 for the week plus taxes…and nice resorts too….good time to travel!!
if I wasnt already booked for a Bahamas cruise this weekend, I would be headed to Varadero at those rates!
