Now that Sunwing has announced some new planes for their fleet, I know only 4 over two years
http://www.sunwingtravelgroup.com/en/Our-Brands/Tour-Operations/Sunwing-Vacations/Media-Room/2018/May/Boeing-737-MAX-8-joins-Sunwing-Fleet How do people feel about the service or quality of Canada’s Charter airlines? We usually upgrade to extra legroom if more than 4 hours but over the years I’ve taken Transat, Sunwing, Rouge, Can Jet and the old Royal and have had pretty good luck with all. Royal was great in the old days of drinks and food. Rouge has been ok the best connections because of the Air Canada relationship but I found their planes a bit dirty and you pay for everything. Transat and Canjet going south has been fine, am going to Europe this fall so I will see how the old Airbus planes are holding up. Honestly Sunwing has been the best of the lot for us other than weather delays.
Anyone else have opinions on our charter carriers?

Well, I’m old enough to remember Wardair, and they ALL fall short in comparison. That said, I’ve flown all the ones you mentioned except for Rouge, and there’s not much to differentiate them. They’re pretty much the same. When comparing package pricing, I believe, at least for the DR, that all except Sunwing include the departure and tourist taxes. I’ve always had to factor in that extra expense when comparing the bottom line pricing. I still feel that a charter should provide a decent meal, a glass or two of wine with that dinner and maybe a free cocktail or beer. As for the extra legroom, I’ll reluctantly live with cattle car mode for trips up to 5 hours.

Even if you paid me I would NEVER go on a Sunwing Chartered trip!

To be honest I am not noticing much of a difference between Sunwing, WestJet, AirTransat and Air Canada Vacations. Air Canada Vacations is the worst and bottom of the barrel if you have a problem in destination and they really don’t do much about it, when you get home. While Sunwing has really stepped up the mark. The only worry I have with Sunwing is they have been known to change flight times, so I do breath a sigh of relief when they stick to their schedule.
I agree with bobfromcanada it would be nice to have a decent , free meal and a glass or, two of wine with that meal.

Other than delays Sunwing is no worse or better than others… same shyt, different pile. I have found the staff on AC and SW much better than WJ.
SW now includes the Tourist Visa as it’s now a requirement by the D.R.

As we are fans of the Riu chain we are stuck with Sunwing now. Luckily we’ve been good for on time with them except this past winter as it seemed their Ottawa flights were always late on Saturdays. Always upgrade to extra leg room. Agree that a cheap meal or free drink wouldn’t kill them for what we pay.
Have flown Canjet and wasn’t sure we’d get off the ground leaving Jamaica. Wouldn’t want them again.
My biggest beef is the crew on Sunwing. Granted this past winter was good but historically we get Montreal based crews here. We’ve flown from Toronto before and the crew difference is night and day. Our crews normally appear stuck up and seem annoyed if you ask for anything while the Toronto crew actually talked to passengers and seemed happy to be there.

How come? Have you had bad experiences with them?

My last flight with them out of Ottawa was great, actual Ottawa crew who were friendly and funny, was a good trip.

Do you not watch the news??..Last winter it seems like every other day there was a horror story about hoe passengers were being screwed by Sunwing…Poor service…Late departures…Broken planes…etc…etc…etc, The travel agent we use says she now tries to steer passengers away from Sunwing. I pay good money to go away…I am not going to risk losing it by flying with suspect airlines!!

I’ve had really good luck with Sunwing. I’ve read stories but knock on wood our flights have been mostly on time. End of the day they get us there and back safely.
Only bad experience has been the crews. Toronto was great for crews and the February 2018 crew was great from Ottawa but previous years was less than friendly crews.
