Mrs. CJ just informed me that we have been drinking Cubita coffee for the last few days. I knew the coffee was good, but I had forgotten that we got some a while back at one of the London Drugs stores here in Calgary, and I thought maybe I was just really in the mood for coffee the last few mornings.

I was just wondering if London Drugs in other parts of Canada carry Cubita coffee?

	Sobeys wholesale supplies their stores and the affiliates with Cubita here. No London Drug stores in the Maritimes.

	It’s too bitter for my taste. I much prefer Serrano.

	I’m in Southern Ontario. We can buy it in several grocery stores now. I started seeing it almost a year ago. In May it was actually more expensive at the Varadero airport then it was at my local store.

	I think they have been inconsistent in their supply and quality. I really enjoyed it a lot but then it got really oily and oh what a mess my machine was in…. but did really enjoy it …that was about a year ago and have not seen it here since… must look for it again.

	I don’t think I’ve seen it at any of the National brand stores but mainly independent stores. Central Fresh Market in Kitchener always has it. Next time I’m at Zehrs or Sobeys I’ll have a look for it.

We liked CUBITA TORREFACTO which actually was roasted with sugar….maybe that was what was gumming up the espresso machine that one period of time – as it was sticky, I thought it was humidity

	I’d love to try some Serrano whole beans. The only Seranno we’ve been able to get the past few years was fine grind and that’s too fine for my Press. About to try and train a Keurig. Any suggestions?

	For my Keurig I bought the reusable pods (not the big Keurig one which requires you to take out the insert before you use it) and also the small paper filters that fit them. I found them on Amazon.ca. These work really well with fine grind coffee.

	Hi CubaJack, last I looked for Cuban Serrano in Calgary the Roasterie in Kensington (403 270-3304) had beans, don’t recall what price we paid though.

No sign of Cubita coffee at our London Drugs so far, although I do look regularly since CubaJack brought it to my attention.

Not complaining however since my local London Drugs locations sell Tchibo brand from Germany and two excellent Italian coffees we really enjoy.

	We used to have a Sobey’s in the town. They carried both Cubita & Serrano; I didn’t buy any because I don’t like coffee (and don’t throw any why not’s at me). We don’t have Sobey’s anymore (I guess our citizens didn’t spend enough money there, so they closed it). If you have a Sobey’s where you reside, give them a phone call and save a drive.

I just use the regular "café cups" in my Keurig (without the Keurig insert) without a filter. Does the extra filter make a real difference??

	The point of the filter or the "modified KCup refit" is to slow down the water flow so the flavour is stronger. Plus the filters cut the amount of dust in your cup.

Just like Bellagio and I don’t like the same kind of coffee. For me, the darker, stronger and I guss you could call part of the flavor I like bitter, the better it is for me. But then, not everyone likes that.Anyways, it seems like there are lots of differences across Canada as to what stores carry what. I have never seen any Cubita in any of the Sobey’s stores in Calgary.

And, Flygt, I hadn’t tried the Roasterie. I haven’t seen Serrano in Calgary at all. There used to ba a place down on 4th Street called Planet Coffee that had a Cuban dark roast that was delicious. Dark and grumbly, with a real nice aroma when it was brewing. I am not even sure if Planet Coffee is around anymore, though.

Don’t have a Keurig but I always buy a coffee machine that uses cone style filters rather than the basket type for exactly the reason Spunky stated:- slowing down the water flow. I also always use fine grind coffee. The slower and more concentrated the drip, the more flavour I get out of my coffee. I like my coffee strong but not bitter or with a "skunky" after taste. Probably why I don’t like Starbucks.

YVR:I completely agree with you about Starbucks. I think their coffee is revolting. Far too strong and bitter for me.

Many Cubans when they roast coffee at home they roast it with sugar so yes could be issues for espresso machine as it can make espresso machine sticky.

	So excited, I found Cubita at London Drugs in Alberta and picked up packages of 230 grams for $2.99.

	I think McDonald’s has better coffee than Tim’s, but on the whole I don’t care for any of the product at fast food places. And I can’t abide coffee in paper cups! You are right, ask for premium coffee at McDonald

Actually, I think Tim’s coffee is OK. I don’t normally get coffee out, unless I go out for breakfast (something that happens about once or twice per year), but one time I stopped and got a cup on the way to work, just to see what the fuss was about. It was not quite as good as the coffee I had at home before leaving, but no better than the coffee I could get at the office.All in all, I would say it is a good coffee, but maybe not so much if you prefer the dark strong stuff.A little side story here:I tended not to mind a slightly lighter coffee, until one time I made a business trip to Caracas. Well the first day in our client’s office, the usual cup of coffee was offered. As my habit back at home was to drink about four to six cups at the office before lunch, I was ready to have a coffee by the time our meetings started. It was strong, dark and kind of revolting. But I was foolish enough to have a second cup.By about mid-morning, I was feeling quite sick and wished I could just go home. But I recovered from that and by the second day, I wanted more coffee. As the week went on, I got used to the stuff, and by Friday I was really enjoying it. So much so, that when my team wanted to go to the mall near our hotel to get some souvenirs before we returned home, one of the things I bought was some coffee. I brought it home, and Mrs. CJ also took to it like a duck to water. I don’t remember what brands I got, but they were all dark, strong varieties and we both enjoyed them a lot. Since then, we have always tried to get some of the strongest, darkest coffee we can find.So that is how strong, dark coffee became my drug of choice.
