Do you feel safe in Mexico? | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

We just returned last night from the Posada Real in San Jose del Cabo. We spent a lot of time off the resort -both day and late night- and NEVER felt unsafe anywhere we walked. The Los Cabos area is quite beautiful, lots to see and do and we’d go back in a heartbeat. The only places in Mexico I would feel uncomfortable visiting would be any towns that border the USA.

I am returning to Mexico for the tenth time and I have never felt unsafe. Heck, you can go downtown Edmonton and get shot by accident, for that matter you can get hurt or worse anywhere in Canada. I can’t wait to return to Mexico. Just use common sense.

I felt quite safe in Los Cabos as well as in Playa del Carmen and Cancun. I feel very safe when I see the armed guard with the automatic weapon in front of the store unless of course he decides to go nuts. Then it could get awkward, but so far no reports of security guards losin’ their cool.

just got back from San Jose Del Cabo….never felt threatened or uneasy at all. Wonderful place, great people. Been going there for 16 years, and will continue to go there.

I have been to Mexico 10 times and the only time I felt unsafe and unsure was the first time because that was the first time I had travelled. I can shot or stabbed or mugged in Edmonton or even my home town. Just be aware of what and where you are going. Be smart!

The great thing about this forum is that most of the posters are experienced travelers and aren’t scared off by sensational headlines in the media. You’ve got a better chance of being killed on the highway driving to the airport than being killed on holidays. We’re headed to San Miguel de Allende in Oct. for a family wedding. A few family members on the ‘other side’ are aghast. I’m trying to extend the trip to include a few extra days in Mexico City and the pyramids of Teotihuacan. One problem I’m having is renting a car in Mexico City. I have found out that you need to be very experienced with the car rental cartel where you will get a cheap price on-line, then get hit with double or triple the rate later. Either fake damage, stickers on th ecar identifying you as a ‘mark’, CC scamming, refusal to rent without buying extra insurance, even though you bought coverage with zero deductible. Lots of reports of problems.

I think I’m going to find similar architecture as I see in Havana.

The death at Yorkdale Mall was a gang hit. Cold comfort to anyone, especially the deceased. The world is a crazy place!
