Does anyone know if the people in DR are still welcoming school supplies? The last 2 times we visited (2005 and 2007) we knew that certain sullpies were in need and we took a whole suitcase full of composition books, pencils and baseballs and things of this nature. We are going back in May and were wondering if we should take these things with us again. Thanks much!

Try contacting Beyond The Beach Children’s Foundation http://www.beyondthebeach.ca/ I know they don’t like people visiting the schools or charities directly, but they do have people ‘on the ground’ to accept the donations and see that they get to the right spot.

Thanks for caring.

Oh yeah, they have a very nice request form (with letterhead). I’ve also used it many times …
And yes, it ‘usually’ works.

Oh, and please note that if you get extra baggage allowance from the airline, it’s only one way. When I take donations down, I generally get an old suitcase from a thrift store and pack the items in it. I just leave the donations and the suitcase so I don’t have to worry about getting anything back home.
