Interesting. Their website could be wrong …. Not like that’s ever happened before. Our flyers went out with the recycle this morning, so I guess I’ll have to pay them a visit in person.

edit: oh, Dec 17-24, that’s next weeks sale ….. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh well. Personal visit. None at either price. Such is life ….

You got an awesome deal! That’s about $100 off retail (at least). Merry Christmas!

Yep. I just got the flyer. Now if they can just get some in stock ….

Unfortunately, the one selling for $149 was NOT the 650 :'(. I did save $100 on my 650 but only because I used a gift card for that amount against the purchase

I notice a few comments about availability of ereaders, including mine. Apparently ereaders are hot, hot, hot this Christmas. No wonder everyone is pretty much sold out.

U r sooo right about them being a hot item!!I am happy I got mine last month and for 94$plus tax..free del as well! I have the basic sony , but only wanted it 4 the reader not all the other features that u can get.My only problem is…I can’t put it down!!!!

Enjoy It!

Steffie:You are so right that eReaders are among the hottest things out there this Xmas. I suspect they will only get hotter once prices drop below $100 generally. I have only had my Kobo for a few weeks now or so now and I can’t imagine reading a paper book. I can’t wait to use it on our next trip to Jibacoa….:)

Thinking the wife might like one of these as well, so does anyone have experience with a Kobo? Thoughts? Likes? Dislikes?

jethro read my post on the top pf P3 Our houshold has 2 Kobo O and 1 Kobo WiFiEDinNB
Thanks edinnb

I’m torn whether to give her the Kobo or the upgrade to club class, tough decision indeed…..

Jethro:If she is a reader at all the Kobo is a no brainer… club class is nice but the reader should provide a lot more bang for the buck. Let me put it this way I went into Chapters a few weeks back to do some ‘research’ with my S/O on the KOBO and walked out with one for myself and one for her despite her statement prior to the visit that she was not interested. All it took was 5 minutes playing with the demo unit and she was sold.A few weeks later and we are more sold than ever, especially as we have stumbled across a number of sources of free reading, including the KOBO website store. For my $$$ this is the best thing to come along since yearly trips to CUba…;)

Jenn

I strongly reccommend the wifi kobo as opposed to the non wifi one…there was a firmware upgrade to the original one last week to bring it in line with most of the wifi’s features and it is very taxing on the processor and memory.. there is more memory and a faster processor in the wifi model and it works seamlessly to sync your library and purchase books if you have the account set up and payment method stored with kobobooks.com.. just a few clicks and you are reading…

Well, a sale price doesn’t do me much good when they (WalMart) don’t have any. They keep telling me they’re ‘en route’. Seems the dog and pony team got lost in a snowdrift somewhere. So I decided to pay the extra and went to Chapters. Also out of stock. Next stop, Future Shop to look at the Sony. Also out of stock on all but the most expensive model 650 Touch. And there weren’t many on the shelf and two disappeared while I was looking. I caved and I’ll now have one to put under the tree. Oh, the salesguy hinted that at the rate they were disappearing, they would be all gone in a few hours and there were no more to be had until after Christmas. And I’d already made the purchase …..
Gadgets come and gadgets go, so it will be interesting to see how many "barley used" ones appear on ebay by next summer…..

I can guarantee mine won’t be

No torn decision for me; I’m looking forward to using my ereader in comfort in club class

Sorry to hear some of you are having trouble getting hold of ereaders for Christmas. I know I lucked out

Based on my experiences, if you are even thinking about it and the retailer has one in stock, grab it. It seems that these things are the seasons’ hot gift this year. ;D
I’m pretty sure that those who have theirs now will want to "upgrade" next year to the ones that have the "latest and greatest" features.

My guess is that we’re gong to see a lot of these e-readers in the hands of the Cubans next year when the get ‘regifted’.

lol, mine will be worn out before I trade or regift. I’m way to cheap to replace something that works even if it’s out of date.

That cat doesn’t look very happy, Steff.

My old Kindle just died. I think it was because of this thread. Dropped by Walmart and picked up a new Kobo with WiFi for $125 – last one in stock. It works great, I’m all set for Cuba and Colombia in the New Year…

I really like reading a book. I have no plans to buy an ereader. It’s just not the same. I remember the glorious feeling of walking into a bookstore in Sevilla Spain, one that had English books, after I had been out of reading material for almost a week (which I know would not happen with an ereader — but then neither would that wonderful "eureka" moment and the ability to caress the written word).

I ain’t switchin’ until they stop printing books. Space be darned. Convenience be darned. I love my books.

Westwoman.. I have 2 avid reader friends who told me the same thing when I bought my Kobo last June.. sincethen 1 friend and her hubby each bought Barnes & Noble Nooks and the other bought her Mom a kindle for her 90th birthday claiming if her mother doesn’t like it, she will look after it….

Some diehards do change… give us time and we can change your opinion too…. maybe…

No surprise considering cats and their dignity ;D ;D ;D…that’s not my cat, by the way. I’d need a visit to emergency if I tried to dress him up

24 hours and I can start playing with my ereader….can’t wait!

Westwoman – I primarily use my ereader when travelling. Nothing can ‘replace’ a real book, but the ereader certainly has a purpose.

Steffie – Enjoy! The Sony Reader Store has lots of online specials this week. So does Kobo. With the sony e-reader, you can order from either.
