Welcome back Gordon! You need to be posting this in the Cuba forum rather than General Caribbean!

Mods, can you move it? Please and thank you.

LOLHow aboutWhich is your favorite in Cuba ::1. Five star ? 2. Four star ? 3. Three star ? 4. Two star ?does it qualify then and my answer is 5 star *****Iberostar Ensanachos
Welcome back Cubaking…

Some of my most enjoyable trips have been 3 star (Villas Chameleon Jibacoa and Club Amigo Atlantico)…occasionally I like 4 star…..never stayed at a 5 star….my only 2 star was Los Terrazas and it was ok because Havana was only a bus ride away and it was cheap….everything else about it was crappy.

To me this is a Cuba question and an easy one for me

5 star – PRDO (Paradisus Rio de Oro)

4 star – mix between MCG and PCV (Melia Cayo Guillermo & Playa Costa Verde)

usually do not go below that in our travels…..

We started out with the 4-5 Star must have. Now, our favourite is 3+ stars hotel on 10 stars beaches. Playa Blanca, Cayo Largo. Simple, clean, good food, staff who remember us; Friends we see each year.Last year I couldn’t make myself write a review because I was so biased.

Will be back there in a month. Can’t wait.

Been going to 4* resorts for a few years but this year as a special treat we’re going to Paradisus Rio de Oro, a 5*. Next year it’ll be back to a 4* again, probably Playa Costa Verde.

I’ve been to all star levels, but have had far more fun at the 3 star resorts. Probably my most memorable vacations have been at 3 star Caracol, Santa Lucia.

Nicest balcony view was Villa Coral, Cayo Largo, a 2 1/2 star at best.

My sentimental favourite has to be Sol Cayo Santa Maria, which started its days as a four star, but has since slipped to 3 star rating.

Five star resorts……toss up between Paradisus Rio de Oro and Iberostar Ensenachos, neither of which would get a five star rating from me based on very brief acquaintance. I need to go back for longer to reassess.

We’ve been to some 3 stars which should have been 2 and some 4 stars, a few were a stretch for ratings, can’t afford a 5*. Some of the lower rated resorts are actually more memorable. I came to the conclusion years ago that stars ratings are all BS. I don’t use most of the things that add stars such as spas, weight rooms, yoga classes, etc. I find older resorts have better views since many of the new ones are built so far back and are too huge for my comfort. Older resorts also usually have older staff. I find older staff are better at their jobs from all the years of experience. They seem to be able to make more from less and are more content. My favorite has yet to be found. Favorite memories:Getting drunk on really good Brut every night at Barcelo CSM.Meeting up with a group from Argentina and drinking until dawn at MCSMSitting at the 24 hr bar at Colonial CC until dawn almost every nightThe piano bar at the Colonial CCSpending hours at Parque Josone and eating & drinking at the ‘cave’ where everything was kept in a small cooler and grilled on a BBQ smaller than the one at homePlaying on the beach with my kids at TrypHmmm, a lot of good drinking memories. lolLeast favorite:Getting mad when the awesome musicians have to go home so that a bunch of skinny kids can have a fashion show for an hour with horrid disco music – various resorts.Sitting in the manager’s office for 3 hrs. at Club Amigo trying to get a room where I don’t need a hazmat suit.DJ’s that crank the volume to max so they can hear their voices bouncing off the walls when calling bingo in 4 languages.

Favorite 5* thus far: Iberostar Laguna Azul
Favorite 4* thus far: Melia Cayo Guillermo, followed by the Iberostar Playa Alameda

Favourite AI resort, only been to 3, Paradise Island in the Bahamas, Club Amigo Guardalavaca was the Sol Rio Luna y Mares near Guardalavaca which is on the world’s BEST beach Playa Emeralda!!! A 3 or 4* depending on who rates it, the bonus was meeting Gordon at the lobby bar at the SRLM!

I would have liked to stay at the PRDO but grossly over priced for a solo traveller from the UK. My two favourites at the Playa Pesquero and the Playa Costa Verde. I personally wouldn’t stay at the Blau, the food there was not to my taste.

For me it would be Iberostar Ensenachos, 4-5* depending on the day. Has everything I need.

I do love that view from your balcony eeeefarm.

I do love that view from your balcony eeeefarm. Villa Coral was a hidden gem. Unfortunately it is no longer available to Canadians. The food wasn’t stellar, but I loved the location and the staff were great! (and the price was right as well) It was a nice alternative to have for Cayo Largo.
My favorie resorts :::Five star – Iberostar Varadero Four star – Playa Coste VerdeThree star – tie – Brisas Guadravalaca & Marea del Portillo

My reason – All are family friendly – have good beaches – decent food and drink – few steps

Bellagio, I find it rather "humorous" (in a good way) , that you’re now "off" on the Blau Back when you first took me on an impromptu tour of the Blau; I wouldn’t have considered booking it, just because of the 3-star ranking…

We’ve done both the PP and the PCV(5 times), and just returned last week from the Blau…And if I was going again tomorrow.. I would go Back to the Blau!Sure, the buffet isn’t the greatest ( what food in Cuba is?) but the Italian a la carte was Amazing, and the pizzas for lunch were great! I Loved the short walks to Anything, and being right next to the dive shop was the best!!!

Helllloooo Gambitt…… did not recognize you with the afro, nice tan and bow in your hair ….LOL

Good to see you aboard Gambitt. I hope you get the dive link up and running again. If you do could you please post it.

I love the Marea del Portillo as a three star resort – Michel at nine months crawled into the Farallon pool and walked out four hours latter !!!!

CKG: Did he crawl up from Marea? That’s quite a hike for a little tot! I really liked Marea, and didn’t appreciate Farralon. I’m more of a ‘what you see, is what you get’ kind of girl. We did go up for a couple of lunches & dinners; but truly wasn’t impressed. But I’m glad your son was swimming at such a young age. Maybe next time (now that he’s older), he can teach me.
