Years ago on our first trip to Cayo Largo, Cuba, waking up to the beautiful Caribbean in shades of Bondi Blue and Green.

Hard to pick just one, but laughing our heads off on the Hobie Cat in rough seas outside the reef at Santa Lucia, on our way back from snorkelling, is one of the best. It was a wild, wet, wonderful sail. Here’s our ride coming to pick us up on a calmer occasion.

Ok travel junky how about a favorite place? even that’s a tough one, I liked almost every place I’ve vacationed at, all for different reasons.Favourite places I’ve visited: Greece (when I still lived in Europe), Costa Rica, Ireland, the west coast (Vancouver Island, the Washington coast), Costa Rica and this year Antigua. |

eeeefarm what a great picture…I remember one time I was in the Dominican Republic and got the idea that I wanted to go parasailing…I am afraid of heights. They took a full boat of us out and of course I was the last one to go up..I was really nervous but was able to have one of the locals go up with me. It was one of the most amazing experiences! It was great because he was able to point everything out while I was up there.

One of my favorite vacation memories is when I first time in my life went on the Caribbean Island and it was Cuba. I truly believed that I am in the paradise and I wanted to stay there forever. I could not believe how beautiful world is until I visited Varadero Cuba that time. On my way back home I was confused and sad but I told myself that I will go many times and since that time I have been more than 40 times in Cuba alone not to say Mexico and Dominican Republic and Panama etc ..

Greece is big and every island is different. I was there with a girlfriend in 1995 and I’d love to go back one day.
Actually, one of my favourite things of the Caribbean (no matter where I go) is the first moment you get outside and smell the air. I love the tropical humid air.

You are right specially when is very cold and dry back home. You come out from the airplane and you feel humidity and warmth

Perhaps I will have to plan a trip to Varadero Cuba next year….did you do an all inclusive? Are they available in Cuba? |

traveljunky you are so right about smelling the air….I know when I would go to the Dominican Republic, I would enjoy just walking down the outside stairs from the plane….feeling the immediate humidity on your face and smelling the air is awesome.

did you do an all inclusive? Are they available in Cuba? Yes, Cuban resorts are almost exclusively all inclusive. And there is a lot more to Cuba than Varadero. |

Varadero is the most "commercialised" place something like Punta Cana in Dominican Republic if I might compare. Varadero has around 70 hotels and beautiful beaches and clubs to go out at night and meet people, dance etc
Usually I recommend Varadero for the first timers that want to visit Cuba as it is not too far from Havana so you can have day trip to Havana.

I will most likely check out this area for next year…or who knows, if I am lucky, later this year. I prefer to do an all inclusive because there is much less to worry about. Sounds wonderful!!!!! |

Yes you are right first time in Cuba you should do all inclusive vacation where you can relax and enjoy. I am sure if you get a chance to travel to Cuba you will like it as it is different vibe comparing to some other Caribbean countries.

Well I was just thinking today that I have a "big" birthday coming up the end of this year…most of my friends are celebrating their "big" birthdays throughout the year. But since mine comes between the holidays, no one ever wants to celebrate my birthday. Maybe I will have to take a few days and check out Cuba. Happy Happy to me! |

For years I went to Cuba for my birthday. In fact, the time I got a freebee upgrade to Club Class on Transat, I was travelling on my birthday. (nice present!) Circumstances have dictated against birthday travel the last few years, but I am looking forward to doing it again sometime. (apart from anything else, it’s nice to be able to tell a Cuban who is announcing it is his birthday,"mine too"!)
Seriously, my Cuban friends have always made a big deal over my birthday. Once I got a whole cake (undoubtedly smuggled out the back door of the kitchen, but still….)

Well my birthday is the end of December, so it would be great to escape to some warm weather in December. I am willing to accept any donations toward my birthday trip….lol!

Ooh, your birthday falls in an expensive time to travel, then! Not only an expensive time to travel, but also when most people are broke from the holidays…what to do for the big ?? Birthday is the question….. |
