Cancun, the largest tourist destination on the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is a excellent choice for those of us who want to dip their toes in the exciting Mexican Culture without leaving too much of home behind. From Pizza Hut to Starbucks and Haagen Dazs, you will find them here. Cancun serves also as a gateway to a more authentic Mexican experience. It is possible to explore some awesome Mayan archeological sites or to take a comfortable bus to a vast number of exiting places on the Yucatan Peninsula and beyond. Visitors to this exciting destination can count -among other things- on fabulous hotels, margaritas, enchiladas, Mariachi, 240 days of sunshine a year and a half million of friendly Mexicans who came from all over the country to help you to have an unforgettable vacation. About 50 years ago, Cancun was a completely undeveloped piece of land known as “Kan Kun” which is Mayan for “Snake Nest”. The Mexican government set out to create a second Acapulco and wonder well succeeded. Four million tourist fly into Cancun airport every year and love it! I know why… Cancun is a blast and as far as snakes concerned, I never saw one! Instead this tourist town specializes in making folks happy. Enjoy Cancun’s fantastic beaches, book an excursions or jungle tour, check out the out-of-this-world nightclubs, go diving or visit the Xcaret amusement park. Did I mention taking a day trip to Isla Mujeres? If you are lucky you have just enough time to enjoy some of the out-of-this-world Mexican food! Cancun is divided in two zones, the city zone and the hotel zone. In the city you will come across all the services you can think of like banks, restaurants, churches, foreign consulates, markets, hospitals, etc. The Cancun hotel zone is where you will find all activities and entertainment hotels, resorts, and of course more shopping, restaurants, the turquoise sea and outstanding white sand beaches. Cancun airport, with plenty of opportunity for last minute souvenir shopping is one of my favorite airports in Mexico since it is situated only 12 km (7.5 miles) from downtown Cancun and 20 km (12.5 miles) from the hotel zone.

If you are looking for a real authentic Mexican holiday or want to vacation in a quiet place, Cancun probably is not the best choice, especially during spring break. Otherwise don’t hesitate, book a flight and join the party!
