? What are your secrets for getting the best possible price on your travel ? Paying attention to other posters on forums like this one. Thanks so much for the "heads up" on Sol Rio de Luna Y Mares November 7th, Gordon. I do keep an eye on prices, but I don’t check every day, so being alerted by other travellers is much appreciated…..I have gotten several deals this way. I also try to let others know about a great deal when I spot one (after I’ve already booked, of course!)

Research, research and more research!!!

It is imperative to know your resorts and what the "regular" prices are. How else would you be able to recognize a great price when you see it?

Research cubed indeed!

My first stop is selloffvacations.com with whom our company has a corporate affiliation. That’s how we booked our trip to PP Nov 4-11. Otherwise, research.

My best prices recently were purchased eight weeks in advance ? That was my experience with booking our recent trip as well. I booked at about 9 1/2 weeks from departure, but had I waited the extra 10 days or so, I would have saved a further $50 per person. Regardless, the $685 + taxes per person for one week at Breezes Jibacoa out of Vancouver that I ended up paying was still a bargain. In some Canadian markets, last minute deals are no longer an option as the charter airlines are combining cities. Our Vancouver flight to Varadero stops in Calgary to pick up more passengers and the resort we got such a fabulous price on, is no longer available.

The last minute booking game for Vancouver departures has changed from what it was a couple of years ago.

I’ve always been lucky by booking 4 weeks prior to the trip. I find the price almost always starts climbing after that. This year, I booked the Melia Cayo Santa Maria on October 10 for a November 7-21. I got the amazing deal of $1388/pp/2 weeks. One week later, I checked the prices (I don’t know why I do this to myself), and there were no longer any packages left for that date. The next departure was for November 22 and the price was $1788! That’s an $800 savings! AND we would have missed Grey Cup!

I have found last minute to be best…..UNTIL this year. It seems the deals this year two or three months out are still great. I think a lot of it depends on how particular you are about a resort or certain area of travel.

I have found last minute to be best…..UNTIL this year. It seems the deals this year two or three months out are still great. I think a lot of it depends on how particular you are about a resort or certain area of travel. I notice the prices right now for January departures are good. But with the economy and financial market turmoil, I’m wondering if they will drop even more.

We are not particular about a resort or area, we do seem to have a couple of resorts that we would definately jump on if the price was right, but for now at least, they are not great prices for those.

I think we are picking the worst time to go on vacation…Dec. 26 or 27th for a week. All the sites are exactly the same price and of course none of the specials and deals out there right now apply to that time period! We’re looking at Puerto Plata or Punta Cana so if anyone sees any deals mentioned that would apply to that time PLEASE let me know!
