Arrival: We got there safely, flight was 5 and 1/2 hours……… 5 Minute ride to the resort, greeted with a glass of rum punch and a lot of big smiles.
Rooms: We had requested a ground level walk out after paying to upgrade to beachfront. There were none available when we arrived so we spent 2 days on the second floor, not much of a view, 3rd would have been much better…..we moved to the walkout and it was better than all good :). The rooms are clean, the a.c. worked fine, the washroom was newer, the mini fridge worked fine. The furniture is a little dated and there were small ants here and there. The t.v. was made in the 1980’s and the hair dryer also. The bed was very firm and the sliding door was hard to open and close, my fiancé ripped a nail off. We were in the Caribbean not Las Vegas and that was just fine! We felt we got what paid for.
Restaurants and Bars: There were 2 restaurants included and a "voucher" for the third. The 2 included were buffet, cinnamon in the main building and beside the pool at the beach. We usually sat ourselves, more than a few times found our own cutlery, napkins etc. We were asked if we would like a drink from the bar about 30% of the time. The staff was apparently raided by Sandals in December, it really should not take 3 months to train new staff. Hamburgers and fries every day for lunch, the layout of the restaurant and a lack of training/ supervision caused serious issues with being served. Perhaps this is nitpicking to point this out, but to be fair, this was the one fault that got tiresome to deal with. The lobby bar was nice but usually backed up as was the pool bar, the bar on the beach is mixed drinks and beer only, no blended drinks. A sign showing the times the bars are open would go a long way as staff were not usually available to ask. The alcohol is typical, cold beer on tap and bottle. The ice and tap water are totally safe, no issues at all.
Beach/Pools/Grounds: The highlight of this resort is the beach, truly amazing! There were always chairs available, quiet spots in and out of the sun and the view of St.George and the sunsets was totally breathtaking. Snorkeling off the beach is okay, not lots to see but the coral provides a natural breakwater that keeps the beach from eroding. The grounds were truely beautiful, the staff worked very hard to clean and maintain.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel: We grabbed a cab into St George on our own and walked the town Saturday morning when the open air market opened. Went up the hill and toured Fort George, met many very nice people who shared history and helped with directions. We also did a half day trip in a private cab, went up to Annadale Falls and saw the Island from south west to north east, got a great deal from Charmaine at the Rex (Insight Tours). The people of Grenada are its greatest resource, we have never felt more welcomed or safe anywhere in the Caribbean. We also went to the underwater statue park, fun trip with the Carib Cats set up by Charmaine as well. We avoided booking trips from the beach vendors.
Other Comments: The Grenadian is a beautiful resort that has a few quirks that can be easily remedied with attention to detail. The people and the beauty of Grenada made this the best trip we have enjoyed to date and we will be returning to Grenada some day !
