Iberostar Playa Alameda Closing May 10 – July 15?? | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

Does anyone have any first-hand information on this? There’s a new note on the Air Canada Vacations site detailing pool renovations requiring the hotel to be closed for those dates. It is now unavailable for booking in that block. The thing is, friends just booked two days ago … for a wedding that’s supposed to take place there in the first week of July.?!

I am contacting the hotel, but any information anyone has would be useful.

Wellll, when I was at the Ibero Tainos end of March, one day I took a long walk up to the Alameda to see our amigo Alexander, the beach bartender, who DID mention that the hotel was closing "for about 2 months in May" and that he was probably going to take some time off OR try to get a gig at another hotel during that time.

That’s the most news I have at this time. I’ll write to a few Cuban friends to find out whazzup.

Well, that agrees with what seems to be going on, now. Too bad the travel agencies weren’t aware of this a long time ago.

Thanks for that, Zendudette. If you do happen to find anything else out – what, I don’t know – feel free to let me know.

Travel agencies always seem to be the last to know or to inform their clients. Thankfully the wholesaler (AC Vacations) alerted you by posting the message on their website. Haven’t checked but I wonder if other wholesalers and on-line booking sites have posted a similar alert?Hope the wedding party will be able to make the necessary changes if in fact the resort is going to be closed. How stressful & disappointing after all the planning! The silver lining is that Varadero was the destination chosen, there are many resorts available and it is at least available from all departure cities in Canada. I recall a very frantic bride from a few years ago. Her wedding plans were ruined when the wholesalers pulled out of Cayo Coco for some departure cities weeks before the wedding. All of her Vancouver guests were left scrambling, trying to re-book the wedding resort from Toronto with the extra expense of the Vancouver to Toronto airfare. After hearing her story, I didn’t feel so bad about my birthday plans having been ruined.

The Iberostar Laguna Azul (bigger and fancier but very nice!)is right next door, so maybe the wedding party can relocate to there. We have always found Iberostar to be very accomodating but I would be pressing that button very quickly. We have been to Playa Alameda several times and love the resort but a reno to the pool would be a good idea.

Finally got a reply from the hotel, for what it’s worth… Here it is:
