Jack Tar Village – Reviews Posted – 2

Jack Tar Village Dan Canada
November 2002

This is a tired resort. I stayed there in 1992 and it was showing it’s age then. I also visited the island in April 2001 although I stayed elsewhere, I visited friends at the Jack Tar several times and it looked exactly the same but even more tired. I suspect the resort was likely built in the 70’s and probably was at the top of its game at the time, but now is outclassed by many other resorts around the Carribbean. At least for Canadians this is priced as premium in tour packages and is definitely not worth it vs. many other destinations.

Shortly the Marriott resort across the road which has been under construction for several years will open (I believe early 2003) and this will be the top destination for the island. It has an excellent location and looks to be quite nice (at least last year when I saw it under construction).

The only saving grace is the small casino at the resort which will be the only reason it will attract business when the Marriott opens. Unless you get a good deal on the Jack Tar, consider it to be a budget property, and not premium as it is pitched in tour guides. If you’ve been anywhere else in the Caribbean 4 star and above, this will be disappointing.

Jack Tar Village Trisha & Shawn Waterloo, Ont
My husband and I stayed at the Jack Tar Village for our honeymoon in September.

The resort was great and the service was exceptional! Everyone was very friendly and the resort was clean. There was so much to do there …….biking, fishing, golf, exercise room, casino, activities.and much, more!

The food was the best we have ever had! There was food available all day up until 2:00am! There was a great selection everyday!

There were two pools and a short walk to the beach.

At night we spent time in the casino and at the disco in the hotel. We had the best time ever!

TIP: We also took a few trips during the day. Don’t arrange the day trips with the hotel.its too expensive. We hooked up with another couple and hired a taxi to do the tours and split the cost two ways. All the taxis will do the exact tours the hotel offers.

There isn’t much around the resort, infact I don’t think there were any other resorts around. But there was so much to do we still had a great time. I would highly recommend this resort its worth it!
Sincerely, Trisha & Shawn – February 2001
