Congrats on the wedding…
The pictures are beautiful… my wedding colors are torquoise and gold so the linen will be wonderful.
Just a few questions:
1.The cake where did you get it?
2.The Monogram topper where did you get that as well?
3.Did you rent out the whole place or did you just get downstairs?
4.The I DO on the wedding cake table was that your decor or did Mayte provide it?
5.For the slide show… did you bring in it in DVD format or VHS format? I wanted to do a slide show as well…
- You stated something about a signature drink… how did you create it? and does that mean you didn’t have open bar ?
Congrats again… I look forward hearing from you

Thanks everyone!

The cake is from the Melia. We set it up with Mayte to have someone pick the cake up from the resort.
-
I made the cake topper. A little more work than I bargained for though! I bought it at a local craft store and then added the rhinestones.
-
We rented out the whole restaurant.
-
I brought the I DO. I bought the letters at the craft store and painted them.
-
I played it directly from my laptop. After we got there, we realized that they didn’t know I would be connecting it that way and they didn’t have the cables. They had thought I would be playing it from my ipod, I think. I was worried it wouldn’t work out, but they found cables and it turned out great.
-
We had the (middle) open bar, but I wanted to have a signature drink – (new last name) – tini. So, Mayte had sent me a drink list several months ago and we tried recipes at home (fun, fun!). When we met with Mayte, she had the bartender try and make one for us. I had made up little menus for each table detailing the drink.
I hope that helps you out. Let me know if you have other questions.

We had nine set up per table, but the side with three was kind of tight. So, I’d go with eight, two per side.

Hi Everyone!
Question regarding table center pieces: What are our options? I really don’t want to bring anything else down with me. (already have a big suitcase full of stuff) Do they have some type of seashell decorations stead of flowers? I assuming that would be cheaper than flowers?
lookinforfun 2009-03-18 12:47:51 UTC #270
chopandmick – I am having large hurricane vases with candles, sand and shells on each of the tables(provided by the restaurant). I believe it is $50.00 per table and that includes the linens.

When I met with Mayte, we gave her Evelyn’s contact info and came up with a time to have someone from the Jellyfish pick the cake up. After we got back to the resort, we told Evelyn about the arrangement. I was worried it wouldn’t work out but it did.
The pencil starfish (place cards), I bought on ebay (seller worldwidewildlifeproducts). I thought their quality was great and the price was too The knobby starfish by the cake, Mayte provided.
I hope that helps you out. Let me know if you have any other questions!

We had 33 guests (including us), and then Pastor York and his wife joined us for dinner as well. I believe someone said the bus seats 40 and that seems about right. There were a couple empty seats.
The menus I made and brought with us. Thanks!

I have a question about tipping. I am planning to tip Mayte, the bus driver, the wait staff, the bartender and the host but how much should I tip? Should I tip a percentage on the food? The wedding is costing a little under $10,000. Any help would be appreciated!
carlymclaughlin 2009-04-13 07:25:43 UTC #277
kristinemarie7: did you have the dj, or just rent the equipment?
also, did you make cd’s or did you use an ipod? I worry about cd’s not working if I make them, although Mayte assured me it’ll be fine, but I’m also not too sure how I feel about someone having to dink around with an ipod to find our dinner music, first dance, etc… can you tell I’m technology-challenged? haha
Thanks!
lookinforfun 2009-04-13 12:08:10 UTC #278
carlymclaughlin: my wedding is the 24th at the Jellyfish, we leave on the 19th to go to the Melia. I rented the DJ also but plan to use my ipod. Does anyone know if he speaks english? I’m feeling technology-challenged as well. I have been trying to put the songs in some sort of order but its harder than you think! I posted a question about tipping but didn’t get an answer. If you don’t mind me asking what do you plan to tip?
carlymclaughlin 2009-04-14 23:19:15 UTC #279
I’m feeling stuck on the tipping thing too… I’m not certain.
I might just make cd’s and throw music onto an ipod and if my cd’s don’t work one of my guests will have to step up and manage the ipod for me… lol… someone will know what they’re doing!
Are you getting married at the Jellyfish too? I can’t wait to see that place! We’re going there the day we arrive (April 23rd) to meet with her and choose decor once I see for myself what she has. She’s so fabulous, I owe her my LIFE after trying to deal with the Melia. We’re still getting married at the Melia, but I’m stickin’ it to them when it comes to the reception.
lookinforfun 2009-04-15 13:02:34 UTC #280
Yes, we are doing everything at the Jellyfish just staying at the Melia. We went to punta canal ast august and met Mayte and ate at the jellyfish. The food was amazing! We toured the Melia which is really beautiful although the wedding coordinator was not very helpful so, we made the decision to do it all at the Jellyfish. I am meeting with Mayte on the 22nd to finalize everything! We are so excited!
