We just rented the equipment, but they still had someone to help out with the music and set up everything for the slideshow. As for the music, I had everything as playlists on my laptop (Windows Media Player) so that I just started a different playlist – cocktails, dinner, dancing and the music played until I changed the playlist. I also did it this way to do the cross-fade between songs. I brought CDs as backup. Hope that helps you out.

Thanks kristinemarie! So I really shouldn’t bother hiring the dj if someone is there regardless to play the cd’s… I guess by dj they mean literally a guy dj-ing… makes sense. I’m not going to pay the extra $200 for the dj when I just want my own music played anyhow. Thanks for that!!

kristinemarie7: would you agree with the last bit of my posting? I shouldn’t bother hiring the dj if I’m just making my own cd’s and there’s actually someone there with the equipment who can look after making sure my cd’s are played in order? That would make me a very happy bride to be right now… lol

Can anyone give me a rough idea of cost for the following
I have emailed them directly but was hoping for an approximate sooner than later
Being married at Jelly Fish Renting the whole restaurant Fire Dancers Linens Food DJ
etc
carlymclaughlin 2009-04-22 09:12:53 UTC #287
Save yourself the $1000 and don’t rent out the entire restaurant… Mayte suggested it to me herself! If anyone walks in to eat (which is unlikely once they realize it’s a wedding happening) you won’t even know they’re there… they’ll be seated upstairs and will likely eat and exit quickly. Linens are $500, food starts at $35 per person (which is what we’ve chosen and the menu sound fabulous), the DJ equipment is $400 or to have the acutal DJ play is $600 instead. I have an old email with all the details, email me at carlymclaughlin@shaw.ca and I’ll get back to you as soon as I get back – I’m outta here Thursday, wedding’s on Monday! We’re getting married at the Melia so I can’t help you out with knowing the cost of having the ceremony there too. Mayte is amazing, I can’t WAIT to meet her!
I’ll post my review asap when I return!

Hi Girls,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have decided to see if I can have my wedding ceremony AND reception at the Jellyfish. I have tried to look for a way to contact the person who arranges everything but have only seen a phone number on their website. If someone has an email address it would be much appreciated. For the girls who have already received a price list could you please email any information you can give me? My email is jenreid1@rogers.com. Thank you so much in advance.

Congrats Chop and Mick
Your decorations were beautiful… did you bring anything there yourself?
chopandmick 2009-04-27 12:33:35 UTC #292
jennierin, the person is charge is Mayte and Gabrial.
Mayte’s email address is: jellyfishrestaurant@gmail.com
You will not be disappointed. They are really great.
Pierrebride09, I did not bring anything. I just told Mayte that my color theme was yellow and I didn’t want flowers as centerpieces. I wanted seashells and starfishes. I was really happy the way she decorded the place.

Hi All,
So sorry I haven’t visited sooner! Congrats to all the new brides! I have my professional pics from my wedding at the Melia if anyone is interested, we didnt have a pro for the Jellyfish our guests just took candid shots from their cameras AND I finally got my wedding certificate (it actually came pretty fast)! It’s great to see that you had a good experience at the Jellyfish. No one should ever have to experience what I went through!

Hi Ladies- I have been posting to the Melia Caribe thread for a while. It turns out we are having approximately 50 guests. We are now thinking the Jellyfish may be a better option for us. I e-mailed Mayte for some info. My question is, we already put a deposit on the Tropical Fairy Tale package. We hired Pastor Rick York to perform our ceremony. Does Jellyfish charge extra for the ceremony, if so how much? Would it be worth it to scrap the Melia ceremony and lose our deposit? Any help would be appreciated.

:::butting in:::
darcy…if you do decide to scrap the ceremony at The Melia you can always put your deposit money towards flowers, bouts, coursages or even a cake. I’m sure there’s something you’d like instead of just losing your deposit. I did this when I changed my mind on having the Tropical Fairy Tale package.
darcyjade 2009-05-11 20:28:55 UTC #298
Thanks Electracity- We are thinking about doing this. I didn’t know we could use the deposit money. I thought we would just lose it. How did Melia treat you when you changed your mind?

Congrat NCAKE
Just a few questions about the DJ
Does the DJ speak English? Who did the annoucements of the wedding party at the reception?
I am bringing CDs for the DJ to mix in with his or her collection, did the DJ have a great variety of music?
I really need someone to do annoucements and I did not want to ask any of my guest … any suggestions?
electracity017 2009-05-12 11:59:35 UTC #300
Darcy…is was no problem at all to apply the deposit money elsewhere. I did ask this question to my coordinator before I left via email though. I can’t see it being a problem for you. I believe there was another bride not too long ago who did this as well.
