What are final cost for flowers? How much of a deposit have you sent and is anyone worried about sending so much money, how do you know its secure?

Thanks and congrats to all of you!

Welcome Jfritz! I’m getting married June 20th 2009. Dboogie and Littlel could probably answer most of your questions as their weddings are coming up in January.

Has anyone requested to see the words the minister recites at the Melia for the wedding ceremony? Has anyone had any family member or close friend recite an entire wedding ceremony – of course this is if you have a symbolic wedding.

Hi Ladies. I had my ceremony at the Melia and had my sister in law perform the ceremony. She is an associate pastor in the US but in the DR it did not make our wedding legal so we got married in the US by a notary public the day before we left. We chose a notary because it was about the most informal we could get. We wanted our actual wedding day to be symbolic and that is the day we celebrate as our anniversary. Almost all of our guests knew this and thought it was awesome to have a family member perform the ceremony.

jfritzl – Congrats on your wedding. This website is a great source of information. Ill try and help answer your questions.

Flowers – Mayte asked me what type/colours I would like but said she wouldnt be able to get a price until nearer the time. She said she will hunt around for the best price and tell me when I arrive there and meet with her.

Deposit – Mayte asked for 50% one month before the wedding. I am in the process of trying to send this but am having problems at the moment with my bank!! Many of the other girls on here have wired money across though with no problems and it all seems to be secure.

Let me know if you need any more info

xx

Question for all of you – Did/Are you going with the buffet? Or did you go with a served dinner? I kind of went ahead with the decision to do a buffet. Recently, my fiance mentioned he would like a served dinner. The invites are already out so it’s too late to ask the guests that way. Although, I believe Mayte said guests could choose the night of. Just curious what everyone else is doing.

Kristinemarie7,
I started with a served dinner idea but then change my mind to buffet. Served dinner your guest have one choice where as with buffet guest can have a little of everything.

Hi Girls I need to vent. I’m a little ticked at the moment…I am now on my 6th wedding coordinator at the Melia! With only 20 days to go I was just informed that even though I am not having my reception at the Melia I still have to pay for guests over the 24 count for the ceremony! AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF…I sent in my rooming list in October and they now tell me that in order for my rooming list to be vaild I need to include ALL of my guests passport numbers, date of births and email addresses; AND if I dont do this I will not have my guests on the same side of the resort and we wont get a private check in. SO now at 10pm my time I am attempting to call ALL of my 70 plus guests for this info, whom by the way are not all comfortable with giving out their passport numbers!

These next two weeks should be me cocerned with packing not all of this nonsense! SO just be prepared in advance that this is what they are requiring.

dboogie82,
Who is asking for this information? That is way too much information needed just to group your guest. I would look into that a little more. I think with hotel confirmation no. should be enough. I don’t think I would give that info. They sure don’t need my date of birth and would not feel comfortable.

dboogie82: thats odd that they are asking for that much information. My fiance is a border service officer I’ll ask him whether it is even legal for you to be sending out passport numbers or for them to ask this information from you, I could understand passport names but #’s that sounds odd. How frustrating. I’ll get back to you.

littlel 2009-01-01 16:47:16 UTC #191

dboogie82 – that is terrible! Like you dont have enough to do already without having to deal with that. I hope you get it resolved and soon. When are you leaving for DR? Are you all ready?

Im arriving in DR next Thursday (eeek!!) – hoping to meet with Mayte and check out the Jellyfish as soon as I can :o)

Well I am almost finished with contacting all the people from my wedding for their additional info. I’m still waiting on a few. The WC Evelyn sent me the email that stated the additonal MANDATORY info. She said its been a new requirment from their corporate offices and has been in effect for 3 months now. I find that funny because I sent in my rooming list early on October 7th, 3 months ago and just now they tell me this. I’m not as angry as I was that night, its blown over for the most part but some of my guests dont want to give thier passport numbers up, they are concerned with whose hands its ending up in to say the least and that I’m sending it over the internet. But for those guests it means they wont get the private check in nor are they guaranteed to be on the same side of the resort as the rest of the group. What boggles my mind is that my travel agent (my cousin) whose been doing this for years never heard of such a thing, she told me to speak to a supervior and put up a fight but I just dont have it in me so I just started calling and emailing my guests. At any rate I leave in 12 days! I’m super excited despite the curve ball. I’m packed and done with everything…thank gosh!

littlel- Good luck, have a wonderful time and come back with lots of things to tell us (good things lol!) and lotsa pics!

ncake 2009-01-02 02:31:32 UTC #193

So I talked to my fiance and he said “that’s ridiculous, in no way should they be asking for passport numbers, that this is not a legal requirement”. Sorry to hear they are even asking this of you. Hope there are no more hiccups for you guys!

Oh a last minute question…

Do any of you past or future brides know how we can pay the balance of the wedding. Im assuming we can pay by debit/credit card at the restaurant but just thought I better check that before I go as I dont really want take the cash as its alot of money to be carrying around.

Any ideas…??

Thanks girls xx

chopandmick 2009-01-06 21:07:28 UTC #197

You should definitely call Maybe before you leave to confirm the payment plan.

Wishing you and dboogie82 a wonderful and smooth wedding day. Can’t wait to read your review.

Has anyone been in contact with Mayte recently? I’m sure she’s quite busy, but I resent my e-mail with no luck. Wasn’t sure if there was an internet issue or something?

dboogie and littlel – Congrats! I hope you have a great time. I’m looking forward to hearing about it when you both return!

Kristinemarie7

I have also been unable to contact Maybe lately…I sent her a message two weeks ago and she has not replied, so I sent another one today…my wedding is next month so I am starting to worry…have you heard back from her yet?

Thanks.
