We had the good fortune to be part of a golf tournament staying at La Catalina Inn last October 2004. Approximately 90 minutes from the Puerta Plata airport.

First off, we are accustomed to All Inclusive resorts so this was our first stay in a "boutique" type hotel. (La Catalina has about 30 rooms and "apartments".) We stayed in one of the rooms set off in 2 buildings on the North side of the resort. The "villas" are south of the main building. Our first impression was of the beauty of being up in the hills overlooking lush vegetation and the sparkling blue ocean beyond. After large AI resorts with constant activity music blaring, you can appreciate the quiet elegance of this resort. It was like a breath of fresh air! Our room was very comfortable and nicely appointed with a ceiling fan and A/C, but what a treat to open your double doors onto a small

balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens and the fresh hillside breezes! The rooms were cleaned daily and supplied fresh towels. Breakfast and dinner was included, with several traditional breakfast choices and a limited dinner menu. The quality is excellent with a nice presentation. They have a gem of a chef. The main bar area is also the dance/entertainment area. Very friendly and informal. A nice place to make new friends and re-aquaint with old ones.

The general manager, Debbie Allum-Ennis, will make you feel welcome as if you are old friends and family. Natalie and Sue are also on hand to make customers feel welcome and comfortable. All the staff were polite and helpful. There are 2 pools and a jacuzzi.

If you are looking for a gentle, quietly elegant, piece of the Dominican Republic, you can not go wrong with a stay at La Catalina Inn. And give our love to Debbie!!

Here are our thoughts about la Catalina — TERRIFIC!!!!! The hotel is like an intimate B & B because the personnel are all so friendly and sincerely accommodating. Fabulous menus nicely served. The site is gorgeous. Rooms are charming. What more could a guest ask for?
