My wife and I are in our 50’s and we travel extensively in the Caribbean, for comparison purposes we have travelled to the Royal Playa Del Carmen,Simpson Bay Resort,St Maarten, SANDALS Royal Caribbean, Jamaica and SANDALS Royal Bahamian Nassau, Almond and Divi Barbados, Club St Lucia, La Cabana Aruba, Breezes Curacao, Jolly Harbor Antigua and Beaches Turks and Caicos. The overall experience at LA SOURCE was unique and very relaxing. It is a smaller resort than we are used to (100 rooms) and LA SOURCE is quaint and family owned not like some mega resorts. We enjoy relaxing on the beach, sightseeing, dressing up for dinner and the SPA treatments offered by LA SOURCE were an extra bonus.
Most of the guests staying here were British and English speaking Canadians, hardly any US citizens.
Room Number:
2303
Arrival:
We arrived at the airport after a 5/12 hour flight from Toronto with Air Canada vacations connecting from Ottawa the same day.We were met by Pearl from Air Canada vacations after a quick and efficient entry through Customs and Immigration. LA SOURCE was a short 10 minute ride from the airport, check in was handled quickly and efficiently and we were greeted with a welcoming cocktail and cold eucalyptus facecloth.A nice touch.
Rooms: We had room 2303 at the top of the third floor. There are no elevators so if c climbing stairs is an issue for you this would not be a good room, other than that however the room was spectacular. The vaulted ceilings on the top floor made the room seem more spacious and the mahogany four poster bed was very comfortable. This room had a spectacular view of the ocean and beach and there is in our opinion no need to pay extra for ocean front. The marble bathroom was large. The room had a fridge and there were 2 water bottles provided that you could use for your stay. There was a safe in the closet.
Room 2301 on the end was a wrap around and has 2 views of the ocean, we would ask for this room if we returned. There is one of these rooms on every floor.
Restaurants and Bars: There are 3 restaurants, Oscars, the Great House and the Gardens, each has a bar opened at different times of the day. There was a piano bar that was open in the evenings and offered entertainment and karaoke. We were a bit concerned about the variety of dining choices with only 3 restauranst but our concerns were unfounded as they changed the menu every 3 days. This could be a concern if you stayed 2 or 3 weeks. The quality of food was excellent and menu choices were good. We ate breakfast every day in the Gardens and they had a nice buffet or you could have omelettes made to order by Sharon the chef. A buffet lunch was available everyday at the Great House but we preferred to eat a la carte at Oscars. The meals there were excellent, the menu changed and the view of the ocean and beach was extraordinary. Ainsley and Elvis were two of the bartenders at Oscars and they were exceptional. We dined at all the restaurants in the evenings (dinner starts at 730pm) and our least favourite was the Gardens. The lights were too bright and seemed to institutional at night. The Great house was very nice especially if you are able to get a table outside on the veranda, ist worth going at 715 or later at 900 pm if you wanted one of these tables. Our favourite restaurant for lunch and dinner was Oscars. You are supposed to be able to dine 1 time per week for dinner at Oscars but if you ask nicely or just take a chance you should be able to dine there more than once. Shirely Ann is one of the managers at Oscars for lunch and dinner and she is EXCEPTIONAL, friendly, polite and wonderful sense of humour, but always in firm control. Akel manages the Great House and he is also professional and excellent. Samanatha who can be recognized by the flowers in her hair is an excellent waitress and bartender. My wife enjoyed afternoon tea every day 4- 530 pm and they had a nice assortment of cakes and sandwiches
The martinis they made for me were not that great, and I would have preferred Remy Martin/Courvoisier but these are small observances. They offered Hennesey and Johhny Walker Black or Red.
Beach/Pools/Grounds: The beach was quite nice and LA SOURCE had built a breakwater that protected the beach and allowed calmer waters.Their were 2 pools and a jacuzzi. The jacuzzi in our opinion wasnt hot enough. The grounds were well maintained and very pretty. LA SOURCE offered many activities such as diving, snorkelling, hobie cats, volleyball both water and land, as well as tennis and fencing.
There is a gift shop on the property.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel: As mentioned earlier there were many activities at the Resort. LA SOURCE has so many activities you have to make choices on what you want to do. The OASIS SPA at LA SOURCE is very very good and they have a la carte treatments that you receive every day but the day of arrival and departure. The treatments were professional and extremely well done, both my wife and I loved them all. Apparently men dont often partake in the wraps or facials, but go fo it guys!! We did an Island tour with Air Canada vacations and it was excellent. The tour lasted from 8 am until 5 pm and cost $85US. The highlights were the Nutmeg factory, Belmont Estate, Concord falls and a local lunch at Hellvelen. We would highly recommend this. We took a taxi into St Georges to take in the spice market, tour the harbour and see Fort George. Again not to be missed. The vendors at the spice market can be quite aggressive but they are polite and a firm no is enough. The Managers cocktail party was good and the buffet they had that night was tasty.
WI FI is available in the Terrace lounge as well as a free internet station for guests.
Other Comments: LA SOURCE is unlike any other resort we have been to in the Caribbean, its small and family owned and you get to know most of the staff during your stay. The owner is Grenadian and lives above the resort, he even came down twice during our staff and played pre dinner music by the pool. A nice touch. A relaxing vacation. Grenada is one of the better islands we have been to, the people are very friendly and we would HIGHLY RECOMMEND LA SOURCE.
The General Manager is accessible if you need to speak with him and he socialized with us at the Managers cocktail party and was there for our departure.
