My husband and I just returned from Cancun Mexico. We have 5 month old twins and wanted to get away on a trip of complete and total relaxation. We found that in Cancun. The flight from Philly to Cancun was approximately 3 hours on USAir..nice flight. The hour plus wait going thru customs threatened to colour our trip from the start, but that seemed to be the only glitch. Once we were thru everything was great. After much research, we decided on Le Meridien which seemed to suit our needs. Its a smaller hotel but makes for a much more intimate setting and the trek to the pool doesn’t take much time. The room was nice, good size, marble bath, beautiful view..the only complaint was that the mattress was terrible! Very hard and uncomfortable, surprising as the hotel takes such care with everything else. Maid service was good. Room was well appointed. The pool area is breathtaking..with three infinity pools, one heated, two not. The beach area was great, well maintained and we didn’t have too much trouble getting lounge chairs. Le Meridien has a beautiful spa but I chose to be outside instead of in, getting treatments. One highlight of our trip was our nightly dinners. We chose not to eat at the hotel restaurant, but did have the breakfast buffet which is quite good. Here is a list of the restaurants we dined at:
1) Cambalache (Argentinian Steak House) wonderful service ( ! ) The steak was delicious and the did I mention the service was wonderful!
2) Laguna Grill (hmm sort of asian fusion with other tastes) great decor..very cool..food was good, bar next door is mainly outdoors and a nice place to have a cocktail and unwind.
3) La Capilla (think another Argentinian restaurant?) Very nice. Great service. Food was good..served on a sizzling grill, nice touch.
4) La Habichuela (string bean in english) Very romantic..great service..great food. Outside eating is in the garden surrounded by greenery and twinkly lights..very different and special. I had their specialty dish Cocobichuela which is chunks of lobster and shrimp with rice in a sweet curry sauce served in a coconut. I added a little hot sauce on the advice of the waiter and the flavour was amazing! If we had discovered this restaurant before our last night, I am sure we would have gone again. I highly recommend this restaurant!
I would say that all of our meals were approximately $130 USD but bear in mind that includes numerous mixed drinks, wine, appetizers and desserts plus the entrees. We found the price of the meals quite fair..the portions were generous. Our trip was great, just what the doctor ordered..we swam, sunned, ate, slept, read..a perfect romantic and relaxing trip..we will definitely be returning to Cancun.
