I’ve traveled many times to Cuba but it has been Christmas holidaysand summer vacations. Now that I have retired and able to go any time, what would be the least expensive time to go to Cuba? I’m thinking about
going back to Marea del Portillo or Luna Mares. |
We’ve found the least expensive time for us is from mid November/early December and again in January.
I’ll qualify that by saying we don’t usually go on sun vacations after the end of March because we get a lovely early spring here on the west (wet!) coast. The weather in Cuba during Dec. & Jan. can be a mixed bag so if you like it hot, humid & sunny, these are not the best months to consider. |
Fall is the best if you travel solo, as I do. Often no single supplement up until mid December. January can be cheap, but there is always a supplement. Weather won’t likely be a concern if you are heading for Marea. Anything on the Atlantic side is more hit and miss. |
I find a good price break for the end of April, beginning of May. Works well with work schedules and it just beats hurricane season. Also, starts the Summer off with a bang! |
![]() going back to Marea del Portillo or Luna Mares. I would say that April has great prices and September as well after school starts some great deals for vacation in Cuba. |
![]() September is good provided you can miss a hurricane!Officially, I believe hurricane season is from end of June to the end of November. Here’s the website for the hurricane center:- www.nhc.noaa.gov/ |
My 1st 2 trips were the 2nd week is Sept (the only time I could get away from the business) was a good time to go, kids back in school so relatively quiet, no single supplement at SRLM, not too crowded, great weather.
Sure there’s a slim chance of a hurricane but there’s also a chance one could get run over by a bus. |
We also get to Cuba always first week of April – more than reasonable and we have always gone cheap at that time. |
You can see now already they have nice deals to travel to Cuba in April! |
Best deals I have found is end of March and April from Atlantic Canada. I went last year for $89 for 4 days plus tax.Have been some weekly deals for $250 plus tax already in March as well.
Fall is usually a good time as well, but not dirt cheap like it is right now out of here! |
There have been many great deal for March from Halifax for 1 week. With Transat no less. Hard to believe but I guess if the flights are not booked they have to do something. |
Still great deals out of Halifax..have been all of April and May so far.
$155-$355 for a week south plus taxes….. |
![]() $155-$355 for a week south plus taxes….. Those are some great deals. April is the best regarding prices that I know and than from 15th of September they will have nice deals again. |
I paid WAY too much for my April vacation. I won’t bother booking in February again.
When should I book for August? We’re watching 10 days at Kawama for $894 pp (Westjet, with taxes in). |

![]() When should I book for August? We’re watching 10 days at Kawama for $894 pp (Westjet, with taxes in). August is tricky as kids are not in the school and some decide to go on vacation. If you looking for particular hotel $894 with west jet and taxes sounds good deal. I believe that you will not find better than that in August. September is different story as price could be less than $700 including tax. |
That’s why we chose August. I normally like to travel in September or October, but my kids are getting to the age where I can’t take them out of school. My son is going into grade 8 and my daughter will be starting grade 11. ![]() The price I listed is for 10 days at Kawama, with WJ. That’s less than I paid with Sunwing for 7 days in April! At least with Westjet you don’t *have* to "upgrade" to get a decent seat on the plane. |
Oh, and that’s booking as 4 adults, 2 rooms, as I don’t know how else to do it. I’d probably have to book with a person because they’re really only 13 and 15. |

At least with Westjet you don’t *have* to "upgrade" to get a decent seat on the plane. I personally think that is good price for August. Usually prices go up in August and you might not find hotel that you wish to stay in. Last minute deals are good only if you are open minded about resort that you will stay in and grab any deal that they might have. |
Best deals for me were in mid-September. I guess it may depend where you are flying from and the resort you choose. |
