Legendario | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

We were flying to Santiago de Cuba for a week and on the way down we said Bummer No Elexir for us this time around as they don’t sell it that far south… Well to our pleasure the flight stopped in Camagüey for a layover to drop off/ pick passengers. We had to exit the plane for fill-up and clean up and to our pleasure the Duty Free shop had many bottles on the shelf for 6.50CUC. We picked up our max allowable and headed to Santiago de Cuba for our holidays. Sure enough the Duty free shop did not have any at Antonio Maceo Airport. Woohoo we are sure glad we made the decision to pick some up in Camagüey DF shop,

Anyone on the board enjoy this "Grand Marnier" of Cuba?

I have read a bit about this somewhere before. Is it a rum liqueur? I noticed it in the Santa Clara airport and wanted to pick some up but we already had our limit. Tell me what it’s like please. I see you’re saying "Grand Marnier"so are you saying orange flavor?

I see you’re saying "Grand Marnier"so are you saying orange flavor? Yes I believe it is a rum base liqueur, however it is very smooth going down. It is not an Orange flavour;I was just comparing it as a great liqueur from Cuba,

I like it straight up room temp sipping and my better half likes it very cold (on ice) as a sipping after dinner drink. Can’t really compare it to anything else other than it is very smooth going down.

If you were in Santa Clara were you in Cayo Santa Maria? We were there in March 2013 ( Memories resort) and the bar had some as part of the all inclusive. Next time you visit why not give it a try and if you like it than you can p/u a bottle (or two) to bring home

Thanks for the info ald1. I will be picking one up for sure. We were at IB Ensenachos and they didn’t have it on the bar or I would have tried it. I asked the bar tender about it and he said he would pick me up a bottle but when he went to his local they were out. Nothing like a smooth rum for sure. Looking forward to giving it a go.

SL,
we have read great reviews about the IB Ensenachos. looks like you enjoy it by the looks below your signature block Enjoy the legendario and repost your comments once you have tried it.

have a wonderful trip

Legendario elixir – yum. I’ve been bringing it home every trip since I first came across it. When we sip on it on the patio, it’s like a taste of Cuba :-). It’s technically a rum but most who taste it find it to be more like a liqueur and that’s how I think of it. Drink it like you would a liqueur in a brandy snifter or liqueur glass. Served alongside an espresso made from Cuban beans – heaven 🙂

Hey Alain, discovered it in 2011 and love it. Now friends and family are hooked. Yehhh, now I have an excuse not to bring back cigs for my smoker friends lol

Well, well! Speaking of this wonderful beverage my wife and I sipped a bit of ours New Year’s Eve. Wonderfully warm going down! It’s right on the shelf in the store at BJ so we’ll be hooking up with it again in February!

Oh yes ald1, Iberostar Ensenachos is the best. We really do enjoy it as do many others. This will be trip #6 and I really can’t see me going anywhere else. The staff all know me by name and that’s a real plus. The beaches are to die for, the best in Cuba in my opinion and the area is so quiet almost like your very own vacation spot. Mo motorized boat traffic, no kit surfers…just clear calm waters. Food is really great as well. All round, it’s just a real pleasure going each year.

Knowing how much you love this wonderful beverage, yes, I believe you would !! Last Feb. there were quite a few bottles on the shelf. Lets just hope that when we’re both there the other guests are "uneducated" as to the merits of Legendario.

No worries if they are out – I have a "source" in Santa Cruz that I’ll share with you
The Elixer of Cuba… I’ve only heard about this stuff!! I have yet to find any myself, and when I asked my wife to look for it, I got a bottle of Legendario Rum… pale yellow stuff (still haven’t cracked it).I know when I was asking on the boards about it, someone mentioned they put it on ice cream! We may be headed back sometime next month or maybe early March… looks like Varadero may be the destination.

Hoping I can find it there… I’ll pay the duty on an extra bottle or two!

If you know of the spots where it can be found, post it up!

Got lucky a few weeks ago and was able to pick up a bottle at the resort in Cayo Santa Maria and also another at the ‘dutyfree’ at the airport. It was about $1cuc more at the airport. Paid $10.90 at the resort. Wow it is good! Cracked open one bottle to share with friends…hid the second for a later date!!

That is smart idea to keep one for surprise

You were fortunate to find it stingray! I just love Legendario but I fear that I may never taste it again! Bocoy Rum Factory in Havana Closed Indefinitely

I was quite surprised myself…especially finding it on the counter at the resort shop. I had first looked at a cigar shop where they were selling good quality rum and the guy basically told me good luck! But, wow the stuff creeps up on you! Have to ask my friends to try and round up a cpl of bottles for me before my return visit. (they’ll probably drink it before I get back!)

Legendario Elixir de Cuba is great stuff, has anyone tried some of the other Elixir type Rum punches from other distillers in Cuba ?

They were pouring it with a free hand for me at Kawama. They were making my cubatas with it. It was REALLY nice, and I didn’t get the impression there was a shortage of any kind.

I thought it was just a rum though, not a liqueur?

If you don’t remember, it must have been good.

Here is photo of Legendario Elixir from its website:

Very similar to mine, minus the flag.
