looking for vacation early Oct | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

My husband and I are looking for a caribbean vacation idea for early October. We are going with another couple who have suggested a 7 day cruise. I’m not completely sold on a cruise because of the extra costs involved and the forced schedule of events. Can anybody recommend an All Inclusive somewhere in the caribbean for that time of year. I’m boycotting Mexico, so they are out of the question. I know that leaves a whole whack of islands, but I’m not sure if they are all available at the time of year out of Toronto. We don’t want to spend anymore than $1500 each.

It would be helpful to know what criteria are important to you. The beach? The food? Off resort excursions? Value for your dollar? Exploring the local culture? I go to Cuba a lot and love it, but if food is your main concern you might look elsewhere. Great beaches, wonderful people, safety, and probably the best hurricane response in the Caribbean can all be found in Cuba. (yes, October is still hurricane season.) If Cuba interests you, check out the reviews and perhaps the Cuba forum for more information. Short list to consider in Cuba: Paradisus Rio de Oro in Holguin, Melia Cayo Santa Maria, Occidental Royal Hideaway Los Ensenachos or if you want to be close to Havana, Breezes Jibacoa. (I’ve left out Varadero, but there is lots of selection there if you like things "more commercial".)

Just about everything will be open to you at that time. It’s our anniversary so we always go away in Oct. And we leave from TO.
