Los Galeones near Chivirico is closed until October 2013 because of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.Does anyone know of a similar resort, namely small (approx. 20 rms), no kids, relaxed, local music, good beach, guiet, inexpensive, in Cuba?We’ve gone to Los Galeones for many years and loved it. We would like to find something similar while repairs are made.Thanks,

Don Lino is small, but not adults only and certainly not the food quality of Galeones. "Inexpensive" takes out a lot of choices. Perhaps Villa Marinera on Cayo Largo?

Interesting thread. We’re coming off 4 straight years at Don Lino and were planning our first visit to Santiago (Los Galeones actually) before the hurricane.Thought about Costa Morena for a little while. We love small resorts also, as in really small! Don Lino got too big for us, over 100 rooms now.So we just booked today at Villa Marinera in Cayo Largo. 22 rooms with full access to a 300 room 4-star , a short boat ride away. Sounds like heaven to me.
Booked ocean-view from Toronto from Feb.1-8 for $796/pp all taxes in. Anything under $800 is reasonable in my books.

We looked at Marinera when Playa Blanca prices were high but we got our price and booked at PB.Would have booked Marinera for the convenience of being at the marina, lovely deck and pool, nice restaurant and bar and the fantastic water-taxi to Sirena and back.
What a nice property, 22 rooms? fantastic spot to take in the local worker’s "Disco Nights"

Anyone who has stayed at Galeones on a package deal knows Sierra Mar. You can use the facilities and there is a shuttle bus. I spent the day at Sierra Mar to check out the snorkelling and go sailing. I found I could hardly wait to get back "home" to Galeones. Different strokes….. |

Galeones or Sierra Mar no contest. Galeones small so you get to know guests and staff, good beach if you can handle 392 steps, village just down the hill to see the real Cuba, a la carte meals and adults only! Actually, Los Galeones is not closed. And, only suffered minor damage from hurricane Sandy. It has been full of young people for the past 3 months or so. The resort is being used as a rehabilitation center for Venezuelan addicts. It was supposed to open for tourists at the end of December, but Cubanacan ( the owners of the hotel) changed their mind. |

Keep it closed to tourist if it is now a heaven for recovery…IMO.
