There was a new one released today that covers the end of Sirena too.

Just out: Aircanadavacations will not be flying to Cayo Largo this season. Darn it!

So who is left? AirTransat and Sunwing?

Spunky 2016-07-24 14:38:10 UTC #24

Nothing direct or indirect outside the COTU and Montreal. Cubana/Caribsol, TMR, Sunwing, AT are as usual.

I’m thinking that Sunwing’s flights that started a few years ago took many of the Montreal clients that AirCanada had counted on. Then AirCanada switched to Rouge and gave away all but their premium service clients to the squashjets.

It’s a shame to see Seadoos at Cayo Largo. "Paradise Lost" comes to mind. Paddle boards or kayaks would be a better way to go exploring on protected waters.

Cayo Largo is my favorite place in all of Cuba. Not much going on but definitely the best beaches in all of Cuba. Yes better than Varadero, Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Guillermo, Guardalavaca, Santiago …

It does look like a very nice place

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful place

We’ve been talking about visiting Cayo Largo for years but always seem to end up somewhere else. Thanks for the inspiring pictures! Maybe next time, we’re in price-watching-mode for early 2017.

If you like nature and paradise surroundings without city noise but quiet pristine beaches you will love it!

My wife would be quite happy to hang on the beach with slushie drinks for 7 days but I like to get out either on foot or with a driver to do some exploring and get a taste of the country. I usually bring fishing gear and enjoy doing some shore fishing which is not possible on CL. What I enjoy most when I travel is ironically getting as far away from the resort scene as possible so staying at an AI is a bit of a compromise for us. I’ve done independent travel in other places but not Cuba because it’s her favorite place too and if I’m going – she’s going too.

But CL does seem to offer opportunities to get out to some remote places with just the two of us and enjoy the natural beauty of the place with a cooler bag of food and cervesas for the day. Although I may miss my fishing rod, I think I would enjoy that.

Hey griz why can’t you shore fish?

griz 2016-08-22 21:06:36 UTC #38

I was under the impression that the Italian company Avalon has exclusive rights to fishing on and around Cayo Largo.

I’d be very happy if I’m mistaken about that.

annem 2016-08-22 22:04:04 UTC #39

You’re not mistaken about that griz… sorry! But CL is definitely worth a visit for anyone who loves a great beach!

griz 2016-08-22 23:26:15 UTC #40

Thanks for the confirmation, annem.

There’s always snorkeling, which we both enjoy. I do a lot more fishing than catching anyway and there is usually fish at the buffet.
