What can I say about Melia Azul? This has been our best vacation ever. We have been to Cuba, DR,Mexico and even 3 weeks in Hawaii and the service and accommodations at Melia Azul were awesome. The hotel and grounds are well kept and the food is top notch, didn’t have a problem getting what we wanted at the bar no matter what time of the day and the pools were clean and always fun to hang out in. The beach is the weak point of the hotel but you can’t have it all. Our first trip was in Jan/10 and it was great, our 2nd trip was this past week and it was equally as good. The resort was busier this time due to Mexican spring break (lots of locals, that’s cool) The most impressive thing about this resort is that they actually enforce their policies (non-smoking, pool behavior etc) We flew Air Transat and booked first class on the way home as the trip home involves a stop over in Manzanillo in which you don’t deplane.
I would recommend this resort to anybody and we plan on returning next December and try some other Melia hotels in other Caribbean countries.
Your Arrival:
Just head through the time share guys and go to the buses outside.
Rooms:
The rooms are great, our first time was 1531, end of hall with a sitting room but no balcony, this trip was 1527 no sitting area but had a balcony. In either case the rooms were very large and the beds were great.
Restaurants and Bars:
The al la cartes were very good although you may want to book the seafood restaurant after 8pm to miss the mosquitoes (it is outdoor)
Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Pools are great, the beach needs some work, there is debris in the water for the first 20 ft or so. Water shoes would be a good idea.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Lots of activities, very good activity staff and your kids wont get bored. Take the bus into town (safe and cheap) and make sure to get into the market in Zihuantenero (sp)
