Old Reviews – Decameron Los Cocos

November 2008

We stayed at the DeCameron in Neuvo Vallarta from February 13 – March 13, 2008.

Upon arriving we found we did not get the bldg we requested. We ended up in Bldg 5 and after much complaining got moved to Bldg 2 two days later. Had top floor and what a view. We loved it.

Staff was very pleasant and friendly. Food was very good and we usually ended up with a reservation every other day. Just did not like having to line up in the morning for our reservation in the evening but we just went down early for breakfast and did it then. Bartenders were nice and you could get whatever you wanted. Mango Daquiris were good.

Evening entertainment was very good.

We went to Bucerias and booked our tours with Scott Tours. He is just over the little bridge. Excellent service and prices. We went on the Pirate Ship (night one) it was a riot. Excellent for its money. Took the Sierra Madre tour and it was not worth its money. Very disappointed. Las Caletas tour was very good as well. We saw whales jumping right by the boat on the way up and back. Unreal beauty…

Lots of chairs on the beach and lots to do. Walking to Bucerias ever couple days on the beach was great. Vendors on the beach but if you say “no” they do not pressure you so that is nice.

You can walk up the hill of your resort to the highway and catch the bus to PV for the day. Lots of fun.

Four weeks was a nice winter holiday and did not want to go home. We are going back for a month next year….

Simply put, we LOVED it!!!!
We traveled to Mexico on Februrary 27th, for one week, with expectations of a 3 star hotel. Our first impression of the hotel and our rooms were "great, we’re roughing it", however after the first day, every other aspect of the experience made up for it. Granted, the bathroom and shower, particularly the water pressure in the shower, made life VERY difficult!

Your experience will include:
Great Service, friendly staff, lots of activity, and a great taste of authentic mexican flavour!

Don’t miss taking the trips that are offered, we enjoyed whale watching, we saw dolphins, snorkling, we took a trip to the city of Puerto Vallarta, we ventured to the Market and town fair, and had great fun doing so!

The food was amazing! We have never had better resort food in our experiences, the waiters chatted with us at every meal, were very nice, and even invited us out to enjoy their days off!!

Look for Phillipe the waiter, who is so talkative and kind, Pedro the security guard, Benicio the local silver dealer, who has a store in town but comes to the hotel every day for two hours to sell his goods. We both spent in excess of $150 with him for beautiful pieces of silver! If you see any of these guys, tell them we say hi!!!

Make sure you check out the private beach club, if you like to body surf in huge waves, and don’t mind getting knocked out a few times! Remember to bring beach shoes, because there are a lot of rocks near the shore, and the sand gets extremly hot!

Overall, our advice to anyone going here is to talk to as many people as you can, staff and other resort goers, you will have a great time, and we truly feel this resort is severely underrated, don’t be fooled by its location and outside exterior, we had a blast and will defiantly be going back!!!

Thanks for the great memories! Los Cocos 2006.

I loved it! My family loved it. I had the pleasure of staying for 2 weeks. We had so much fun. The rooms were clean and were maintained daily. The whole resort was kept clean on a regular hourly basis.
Everytime I turned around, the floors were being mopped! Very well kept. The staff was outstanding! The nicest, friendliest waiters, waitresses, bartenders and cleaning staff you will find. They all work hard to make us feel welcome and comfortable. From aerobics on the beach at noon, to the disco shows at 930pm, the activities staff is always hopping! What fun they have entertaining us, and what fun we have watching them. They were fantastic.

The food was wonderful for my husband and I. Unfortunately, I personally found not enough variety for children on the nightly menus. There is a snack bar that serves hamburgers, fries, hotdogs and salads, but it was closed during the nightly dinner hours. Maybe my kids are just picky eaters.

Not included but very reasonable and within reach, are day trips. Trusted locals make your day trip memorable. Well worth taking a break from the beach bum attitude. As this is a family resort, more daily activities could be geared toward age group, maybe like pool games, or tshirt painting (just ideas).

The adult building and pool is set back from the screams of excitement and bickering siblings. We met some wonderful people that stayed in the building that were not interrupted by the children’s playful noises.

All in all I totally recommend this resort. Lots to do and lots to see. I can’t wait to go back next year.

Upon arriving at Decameron Los Cocos, I wasn’t sure, rough terrain, basic rooms, the resort was spread out, not facing the beach or water. We were booked in the Cocos #3, not on beach, but soon realized we were away from the noise, the bed was very comfortable, and a we had a nice little balcony overlooking a spot that had a couple of beautiful peacocks, We couldn’t hear the roosters, or the dogs and cats during the night. I enjoyed the pedlars on the beach and in the town of Guayabitos, very friendly, not pushing, no hassles. I liked the atmosphere of Mexican families vacationing here and how accepted the locals were around the site, pedlars would take breaks from selling and join in on the volleyball, soccer games. Lots of activities, aerobics, games, nightly entertainment. Great bunch on staff. You felt safe and everyone left their bags, towels on their beach chairs, seem to be very honest people around. I compared with other couples that spent $1000.00 more for socalled 5 star sites, the food and drinks here were well worth the dollars I spent for my 1 week vacation. Local cigarettes included was a first, although I don’t smoke. More effort by all is needed on cleaning the beach, disposing and recycling of garbage, too many boats in the bay. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an economical vacation.

January One week

I visited Puerto Vallarta at the Decameron Los Cocos Resort. It was an o.k resort. I had travelled with my boyfriend and it was a nice quiet resort. It was the only resort at the end of the strip of little huts, selling souviners. It was in a little fishing village of Guadalarya ( sorry if I spelled incorrectly)

The food was o.k It was mostly American type of food, burgers, fries, pizza. The drinks were great as well. Didn’t spend much time with the animation people, didn’t sewe many shows. Went to the disco once. I’m not sure if it was the time of the year, but it wasn’t that full, nor was the hotel, and it was nice. Didn’t really seem much of entertainemtn to do, from the hotel staff, agian not sure if itw as the itme of the year.

The weather was o.k Not hot, bt not cold. I didn’t go swiming the ocean was cool, and the pool was even colder.

The rooms were nice. And spacious. And clean. it was a lovely resort. Overall it was a nice vacation. Ver relaxing. I would defianlty go back, and would recommend this resort for people looking to go away for a quiet vacaiton for couples who are looking to relax in the sun, and not have anyhting to bother them.
