My wife and I stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya for 2 weeks the beginning of February. As such we used all of the Iberostar properties during our stay. For the last 2 days of our trip we upgraded to the Grand. For our review of the other Iberostar properties see their listings.
The last 2 days of our holiday we decided to upgrade to the Grand. Depending if there’s availability the cost was $150US per night. If the Maya is a 5 star then the Grand is an 8. From the marble floors, the salt water pool and spa, the tranquility pool, pool side lounge beds, gourmet meals, pillow menu, plush robes and slippers, and butler service everything is top notch. The room service menu is like an ala cart menu and brought to you room in a heated serving cart. It may have been the time of year or the size of the property but the resort seemed rather empty and quiet. It was common to see 1 or two guests needing all the Star friends to play beach or pool volleyball. Had we stayed the entire time at the Grand we would have been bored and likely spent many days at the other properties. Our only complaint is that they didn’t restock the snack bar (chips) and mini bar the second day and when we used the butler it took him an hour to deliver a dvd we requested and then the dvd player didn’t work.
Other Comments We would have enjoyed staying at any of the Iberostar properties but if you want a little higher end spend the extra money for the Lindo or Maya, you won’t be disappointed. If you want a special treat upgrade to the Grand for a special ending to your holiday.

My husband and I stayed at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso Hotel from July 20 – 27, 2008.
This was our second trip to Mexico. Last year we visited the Bahia Principe Akumal, also at the end of July.
Where to begin….First, this was absolutely the best vacation we have ever had!!!
The Iberostar property, from one end to the other, is simply an oasis. Each resort offers something different for everyone. The lushness of the vegetation leaves you breathless, it’s that beautiful. Love the covered walkways everywhere.
On to the Grand…I think Iberostar have outdone themselves. Everyone expects something different from a holiday, but I believe most people want to live something out of the ordinary when planning a vacation. For us, this experience at the Grand was a completely other world. The pictures of the resort do not do it justice. Everywhere you look there’s something more magical to feast your eyes on, from the paintings on the wall to the different light fixtures in the main hotel, and the bathrooms, each one different from the other and I must say I’ve never been so excited to visit a washroom in my life (if only I had my camera with me more).
There are 3 pools: One indoor salt water pool with Jacuzzi, fresh juice bar, exercise room. One would think to themselves “Why an indoor pool in the Caribbean?” Well, let me tell you it came in nicely when on the first full day of our trip Hurricane Dolly was passing through and sent us some heavy rain and wind all day!! That’s when the indoor pool was much appreciated, and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to enjoy it. They also have a large salt water pool up front overlooking the ocean. This is the activity pool with pool bar etc., so if you are looking for some fun this is the place to be. There are sun shelters, sun beds and loungers for everyone. I did notice the loungers filled up quickly in the morning but later in the day there was always place. The quiet pool is a freshwater pool with 2 large jacuzzi’s, lots of sun shelters, sunbeds and loungers. Very relaxing after a full day at the beach.
There are two main buffets: Bella Vista, which is in the main hotel building and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was absolutely wonderful. Everything was fresh and was not sitting out for very long since they used smaller plates to place food on and replenished almost every 15 minutes. They had wonderful breads and pastries, very fresh every day (I was amazed at the freshness of everything since I also just returned from Vancouver and the muffins in our hotel restaurant were not nearly as fresh). Lots of fresh fruit, even raspberries and blackberries, which cost as small fortune here at home.!! We ate wonderfully made omelettes with anything you want in it. They had waffles, pancakes, toast, yogourt and yogourt drinks, all kinds of cereals, it goes on and on.
The other buffet, Brisas, is right off the beach area and very accessible from the main pool. They served breakfast and lunch straight through until 5:00 p.m. They were not open for dinner. Again, the buffet was amazing, fresh salads, meats, etc., pizza. You could even order off of the lunch menu; grilled shrimp, lobster, fajitas, burgers etc.
There are 4 speciality restaurants at the Grand; The steakhouse (we ate here 2X – the food was amazing, we had filet mignon, chicken and shrimp brochette entrée, seafood platter etc.). This was our favourite. They have a very nice Italian restaurant at the front of the complex, which is also very good. There’s a Japanese restaurant and the Gourmet.
There were no snack bars since we had 24 hour room service and you could walk into any buffet to get a snack or have it served to you poolside or at the beach. There are also many snack areas at the Shopping Centre or any of the buffets at the other resorts. There is also wait service at the beach and pools, so you never really need to go anywhere, although it’s nice to get up and go for lunch. I heard some people complain the drinks weren’t coming fast enough, well, if that’s the case – get it yourself!
We’re not big drinkers but you could get any kind of drink you wanted, just about anywhere. I swear if you were sitting on the stairs outside the buffet you could probably get someone to get you a drink. The service was outstanding and everyone was so nice about it. Their first priority was making your holiday special and they did just that. Everyone had a smile, everyone always seemed so happy to see you, and they worked very very long hours. We would see the same people at night in the restaurants that were saw at 8:00 a.m. that morning in the buffet.
Our room was just lovely, very clean. We had a king size bed that was extremely comfortable with wonderfully soft pillows. If you didn’t like your pillow, you could order a different one from their pillow menu. The bar was stocked daily with water, juice, soft drinks, beer and top shelf booze; tequila, rum, gin, vodka. They also had red wine and white wine, chips and peanuts. The air conditioning worked very fine and you could control the temperature in your room. Maid service was wonderful. They cleaned up every morning and changed towels 2x daily, in the morning and at night when they turned down the sheets and left chocolates on your pillow. Our balcony was very large with a day bed to relax or snooze on and a hanging wicker swing, & ceiling fan.
Room service was excellent – about 30 minute wait and was hot upon arrival. The selection of food was very good, in our opinion.
I could go on and on but this is getting long. The bottom line is: This is a fabulous resort, the grounds are beyond beautiful and the staff make it what it is, a fantasy world for the everyday working person. Yes, it’s pricey, but well worth saving up for and really going all out. This is the only resort my husband has said he would return to…..so I’m right behind him.

My husband and I stayed at the Iberostar Grand in March 07 for 8 days immediately after the resort opened. We have stayed at many other Iberostar properties, including the Maya. We have also stayed at many other all inclusives in Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
We have loved every trip to Iberostar but this place – WOW! As Iberostar’s first adult only resort they have truly outdone themselves.
This place is incredible! The property is breathtaking, the staff amazing! The food – does NOT compare to any other all inclusive we’ve visited. Truly exceptional.
If you want to be pampered visit the Iberostar Grand. I can honestly tell you…not one guest had anything to complain about! The place was/is spectacular! This is the only trip we’ve taken anywhere where every guest on the property looked relaxed, happy and was smiling the entire week. No one wanted to leave! Many of the guests were trying to extend their visits for up to a week or more! The only thing that prevented them from staying longer was that there were no available return flights!
Upon our return home we immediately began planning a return trip to the Grand. We aren’t even considering another property for our next "Mom and Dad" vacation! The only question is…how long can we stay?
Who can complain when you have a butler, top shelf alchohol, a pillow menu, fine linens on your bed, a beautiful beach, your pool/beach towels being laid out on your chairs for you (and replacements brought to you if there is a tiny rain shower or your towel looks too wet), absolutely wonderful tasty meals, immaculate grounds, fresh linens in every restrooom (including the pool restroom) – no paper towels here! Drinks that are served looking like those in commercials (no watered down drinks spilling over the sides of the cups here). Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I can’t say enough complimentary things about this property!
Well worth every cent!
