|Secrets Maroma Beach||Daryl ~ Calgary, Canada|
Arrival: April 17th to 24th
We arrived mid afternoon on a shuttle from the airport. We were greeted with a cold towel in the main reception and quickly went through the check in process. We were given a glass of champagne and treated very well by everyone involved adn we were pleased with the initial service. There is a main bar located only steps away from the check in seats and we were able to get a cold drink before proceeding to the room. There are no arm bands used which we liked very much. The whole process took less then 15 minutes and we were off to our room.
Very nice rooms with a kingsize bed. The view we had was from the 3rd floor and looked into the main courtyard with a partial view of the ocean. We were on the corner suite which also looked on to the next 3 story building, my wife was not impressed with that. The furniture is very good and they have two lighted closets and a large TV with about 40 chanels for viewing. The beds are pillowtop and very comfortable. We have experienced very hard beds in other resorts so this was a very plesant surprise. The maid service was not very timely as they tend to do turn down service around 6 to 7 pm which is a little early. There were a couple days that the room was not made up by the time we got back in the late afternoon. There is a 2 person jaccuzi which takes about 15 minutes to fill up. Overall the rooms are very nice and very comfortable.
Restaurants and Bars:
There are 7 al carte restaurants and we tried all but the Japanese one as it takes about 2 to 3 hours to do the Japanese experience. The French rest. is very good and so is the Oceanside Seafood. The Seaside Grill which is conncected to the Oceanside rest. is very good and the food is very good throughout the complex. Servings are not large but they will provide more if you ask. The staff in all the rest. are great, they are very attentive and are very happy people. The bars are located throughout the property are all very good but the one complaint is that the beach bars close around 5:00 so if you like to sit around the pool late in the afternoon better stock up on drinks or you ahve a long walk back to the main building for more drinks.
Beach/Pools/Grounds: The beach is very wide and has lots of covered lounges. No rocks in the sand like ohter beaches and there are no beach vendors that are trying to sell you stuff everyday, never saw one all week. The beach is very nice and you will not have any complaints. We did try to get a chair reserved before 10:30 each day as the ones with shade fill up fast. The loungers by the pool are usually full by 10:00 so if you like to seat there then better get up a little early. The main pools are not very large so you will want to get a seat early if you want to hang out there. The pools that are connected to the rooms are not designed to be used by anyone else then the people who have main floor rooms. The grounds are very nice but still need lots of work to grow in. The staff are constantly working on planting and watering so in a couple years this place will look great all over the grounds. You can walk for miles in either direction on the beach as the resorts tend to share a long stretch of beach in both directions.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
We only went into Play de Carmen once as we came to rest and relax. We went to 5th Ave which is very long but very nice. Typical mexican tourist trap with lots of vendors trying to get your money. The food at La Parrilla is excellent as we had the Fajitas and they were excellent so I recommend that place if you are in need of some snacks and drinks. Nice little town and only costs $20 by cab to get there and $20 back.
Overall were loved this resort and would go back again in a minute. The cost is a little higher then other resorts but it is a smaller resort and you do not have to worry about lots of noise. they don’t have noisy Party makers and loud stereo music on all day long and that was a nice change. The evening entertianment was decent and they are very attentive to needs you have.
