We just returned from our vacation to St. Lucia. We spent 9 nights at the newly opened Almond Smugglers Cover all inclusive resort. Although under construction still, we were not at all displeased with the resort. Some services were not fully available but overall the resort was very nice & low key. The facilities were all very pretty and nice. Only 3 restaurants were open: The Cove, La Trattoria, and the French Restaurant. A seafood one will be opening soon. The food was excellent at all the restaurants. They offered a buffett on 2 nights at The Cove and every day at lunch they also offered a small buffett style lunch on the beach; otherwise you are seated for all meals at one of the restaurants open, The Cove or La Trattoria. La Trattoria has excellent lunch portions & selections. The breakfust buffett was very good with a nice selection of foods. Staff was friendly and nice. Grounds were for the most part well maintanined but you can tell the plants are mostly all newly planted. In a few years the grounds will be very pretty. Our room was in a fantastic location overlooking the pool, The Cove restaurant, and even a view of the ocean through the palm trees and very close in—we couldn’t have asked for a better room location. We were very pleased with the location of our room, but there are many rooms that would be a long walk away—do make sure to ask for a room close in to all facilities to avoid long walks to your room. Our room was just okay— we expected it to be more upgraded since the facilities are boasted as newly renovated. Our bathroom was not renovated at all and felt rather old. We also had a severe ant problem in our bathroom and near our front door which we had to contend with daily and had them spray 6 times over 9 days. We hate to kill the ones on the counters & clear them from the toilet & tub to use the bathroom, which was bothersome, and the fact they would be all over your feet & legs as you dressed in the bathroom each morning. Then you had to contend with the hundreds of dead ants lying around from the poisons. Otherwise, the room was simple and we had daily maidservice that kept the room clean. The entertainment was okay and not geared for the younger crowd or anyone under 40. We skipped the nightly entertainment most nights for lack of interest and variation. The swimming pools were all nice overall but a bit on the small side. They did offer beautiful views of the cove and ocean beyond and you were able to always find a chair to sit in on the beach as well as poolside. They offered tour reps each day for approx. 1 hour each morning to set up tours. We did take advantage of the banana boat, Hobie Cat, kayaks. We never had any difficulty participating in any water sport activities. The Cove was lovely but the water was dark & murky and the beach, not a white sand beach, was rocky and the water was very rocky. You must wear shoes to go into the water. It was still a pretty cove and we enjoyed our location very much. It was close to Rodney Bay, Castries, and other places of interest. We rented a car for 8 days from Candida’s Car Rental ( highly recommend her service—she was fantastic) and she picked up and delivered our car. Car was clean, reliable, and we would use her again in a heartbeat. Overall we would stay at this resort again. If you have a family and are interested in a low key resort, then this is a good choice for you’re group.
The island is truly beautiful and we had a wonderful time. The people are friendly and overall scenery was amazing. We loved St. Lucia and highly recommend a visit there. We also did a day tour to the Grandadine’s—worth every penny & recommend you do it.
