Plaza Reviews – Cuba Hotels – Plaza

Having stayed in a slightly cheaper but frankly grotty hotel nearby we booked 3 nights at Plaza, and didn’t regret it. Huge colonial spaces downstairs, good sized high-ceilinged bedroom, nice bar/meeting area with beautiful fountain. OK so the shower fittings might be falling off but you dont need to get hung up on such things in Cuba. A reasonably quick/efficient money exchange was useful. We had great fun at a 2-hour Salsa lesson – on the roof, right next to the Bacardi building. Excellent location in town, a couple of minutes walk from the Prado avenue, down which is 10 pleasurable minutes stroll to the Malecon and sea. Taxis (and probably coco taxi and bicitaxi) usually right outside. Tip: cross the road at the main entrance to a hole-in-the-wall shop a few metres along, to buy large bottles of water at half the hotel price. Self booked for 2 of us, £42 UK pounds per night for the room and breakfast, quite happy with that.
