I am having difficulty viewing any of the reviews. It pulls the review up, then does this waiting for png, then the text for the review is gone, leaving only the side bar and basic template. Is this problem uniquely mine and if so, how do I fix it? Thank you.

What browser are you using? A screen shot might help, so we can see what you are seeing. (hit "print screen" and paste the result into a photo program, then save it as .jpg, put it online somewhere like Photobucket, then post the image here……) I just reread that, and if you aren’t technical it may seem a little intimidating. Sorry! Let’s start with what browser you are using. If it’s IE, you might try downloading Firefox…..that’s what I’m using and I don’t have any problems…. |

If most of the page is displaying I’d guess that you are on a dial-up service. If so, it takes ages for the text portion of the reviews to display. Try waiting for a few minutes.

I’m on dial up myself, and it can take a little time to load. You are right, the text is the last thing to appear……hopefully that explains the problem for rosiart……
Using Firefox, I often have multiple tabs open, so I don’t always notice how long things take to load.

I’m on internet explorer and high speed. It worked a week ago, but not now. I’m thinking there is a setting that I may need to change. It shows the whole thing, then loads this png, then all I have is the template, with no text. Hopefully someone who is an owner or moderator here will see this, and let me know what I have to do.

Hey rosiart, what version of Internet Explorer are you using? Are you on Windows XP, Vist, 7 ?For anyone interested, I asked the editor about having a basic HTML version available for modem access and they won’t do it. I volunteered to help too.
There is a commitment to xml and flash here. Sure it is prettier but it’s S L O W W W ! !

Spunky, you said it! Very slow loading on dial up. I’ve been looking at the source code for some clue as to rosiart’s problem……some of the pictures are .png images…..maybe her browser doesn’t know how to handle them? I’m really not a programmer, but perhaps you have some ideas? Would love to have this site available in basic HTML. Sure speeds things up (I default my gmail account to that, great for Cuba too!) |

I’m running Vista, internet explorer, high speed access. I would really like to be able to access the reviews again. |

I had a look at it using Internet Explorer 7 with Vista as the O/S and it displayed just fine. Have you done any recent updates?

eeeefarm, if it wasn’t for basic html there wouldn’t be much in the way of email from Cuba.I invested way more time than necessary "dialing up" this forum from Cuba when a basic HTML version would work as nicely as my gmail does.I almost asked someone to accept emails and post them to this forum for me because of the speed problem.Thankfully TA runs way faster as does DR1 and cayolargo.net.I even got the ads faster. Hit a tour operator by mistake and got a full screen ad. Nice compression routine and a real wake up as to how fast a site can be on dialup.png’s draw curves better than jpeg’s. No advantage for websites at all and makes the image files too big with no improvement in quality. Probably there as an error.Send me the page addy and I’ll check the file sizes and let the editors know where the problems are.
Rosiart, that’s IE8 right?

My dh checked and I was running IE 7. He updated me to IE8 and the problems seem to have disappeared. Thanks for all your suggestions and help.

I’m running Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 8 and on high speed. I can get to the reviews index page, but when I click on a specific resort, the reviews come up momentarily (I think – there isn’t time to actually read anything) then they disappear, and I get a few of the headings, with the rest of the page blank.

Sounds like Rosiart’s problem. Funny, because I couldn’t reproduce it with my Vista & IE7 combination. I’ve tried it also with Linux & Seamonkey (browser) and it’s fine. Anyone else out there with a problem? Sounds like perhaps a browser setting might be to blame. I say again, download Firefox and you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with IE. |

I found a way to do it. When I get the blank page, I go to "view" on the menu and change the zoom to 75% and then back to 100%. Everything shows up at 75%, but the print is a bit small. When I change back to 100%, it’s all there. It’s still ridiculously slow, though. |

… too slow for a commercial site with advertisers.
Must not need the revenue.
