| We are going to the Salinitas on the 22nd of March and wondered if anyone could answer a few questions?- The currency is the U.S. dollar , do they also use U.S. coins?- Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the available tours and prices, or the cost of hiring a taxi for the day?- We also enjoy dining off the resort on occasion, any recommendations?- Anybody have any comments or experience snorkeling in the area?

| – yes for U.S. coins- bunch of tours available thru resort( waterfalls, flower route, coffee plantation, volcano,arts and crafts and others I can’t remember), most in $40-75 range, availability depends on if enough people sign up– if you ask around you can probably find an employee to take you around on a day off-that’s what we did with 2 other couples, took a taxi to Sonsonate one day as well sorry can’t remember cost $30 maybe?-not much selection close by for off resort dining we could find, we ate at a Mexican restaurant in the mountains while on our own "tour"- didn’t do much snorkeling, not a lot to see there I didn’t think

| Yo…Just back, and wishing we were still there. The resort was beautiful, food average, entertainment very bad, but I would go back in a minute. The Decameron has a beautiful site in El Salvador. The country is still uncharted as far tourists are concerned. The resort and the tour operater offer bus trips that are adequate, but really just a long bus ride for a short excursion, and a long bus ride back to the resort. We used resort bikes to see the local countryside (free) and took a taxi into Sonsate. ($30) Don’t just stay at the mall, go downtown and really see the sites. It was quite safe (apparently) but don’t look for souvenirs here, only lots of local stuff. Good news, beer is very cheap, $0.70 US, at roadside cafe or the grocery store. Driving is insane.. unless you are very well insured, just use the bus or taxi. If you want to use escorted hotel tours, you are looking at spending $45 to $95 dollars (US… that is their currency) and you can do the waterfalls, coffee plantation ($45) or go into Hondurus or Guatemala (all day and $95, mostly spent on the bus). The tours only run on specified days, get this info as soon as you can when you get to the hotel.We loved our holiday, it is not a party spot, but a vacation (I mean REST) and would go back tomorrow if I could. | |
