As a person that does ongoing business here in the COTU with his company and had numerous conversations about my interest in a Cuban venture of my own a few years ago I can say he got screwed !His release was imminent only a matter of time , so glad he will be home where he belongs.

Lenny

Thanks griz that is a good stream .

Well let me see here now , my lunch of lobster , fresh fish , rice and greens will still be under $20 Cnd , my beer and or rum will still be under $3 Cnd , my casa or hotel room will still be under $35 Cnd , would I prefer to pay less , sure I would . In the big picture for me at least it will not make any difference as to the number of trips I make or the amount or frequency of my tipping habits. My thoughts are that our Cnd $ is now about where it should be and I can live with it as is with no hardship . There is already an increase in exports to the US from my area , which is a very good thing !

Taking a case on Sat to Cayo Coco and will report back on the experience for any that may also be interested.
Lenny

Be safe John and easy on the knee !
I have 13 more sleeps till my buddy and I head off on our fishing trip to Cayo Coco and who knows where else for 11 days then come home for 21 sleeps and head back to Mojito for a week with the Boss …….

I for one will enjoy the company of American tourists over the company of " certain " tourists that are now very prevalent at most resorts !!!!!I have lived in Pa , NY & Fl & don’t really know what all the fuss is about , the high stepping loud mouthed Texan stereotype ain’t going to Cuba !

Lenny

You can window dress it all you want and make all the silly comments about folks that take the " allowed " size of carry on aboard the plane BUT anybody that actually puts anything of value in their checked bag is IMHO a bit of a gambler !!!Sometimes a bag does not arrive with the plane you travel on but shows up a few days later ( or not at all ) sure glad this cowboy has enough travel savvy to pack what you need for a few days in your carry on !

Common sense is something that seems to be dealt out at birth and not taught as you go.

LENNY

I think Big John . Little Mike & Mike do the majority of the loading and the rest of us just help them ! The amount of stuff these guys can pack into a container is truly amazing !!!!!
Lenny

Strange , I also book land only with Sunwing and don’t see a big difference for Cayo Coco for my Nov trip or for end of Jan Did you try Transat & Holasun ? or Pototo Tourist Service ?

Lenny

Seems that DFC will pack the 3rd container for this year after Xmas and send it back to the same province as the last one ( Mayabeque ) as they seem to be able to deal with the paper work better and faster than other places. This pack will take place at the warehouse so not many volunteers required , if needed John will send word on his return from Cuba.

So here’s the deal , I want to get my buddy to pick up cigars for me so I went to the for mentioned location and got a couple hundred $CUC at an exchange rate that is a few points less than I could get MYSELF in Cuba BUT perhaps the same as he might get !!!So for me it was worth going 2 miles and grab the cash to give him and make the deal a little less complicated cause with this particular friend we don’t want complicated .Good info for many reasons. IMHO

Lenny

Just a few comments , Guitart WAS the first resort built on these Cayo’s. Also there is no preserving of anything here , they are building resorts on " protected " sanctuary areas and anywhere else they can squeeze one in !!!!
Lenny

Took quite some time to read through the info provided in the link AS WELL as the more eye opening info on their parent company " Global Outreach Mission ".They seem to be a VERY large group of well meaning folks with a very structured system for collecting and distributing donated funds ( not goods ).I praise their efforts but think I’ll stick with the charity of my choice which has NO affiliation with any one else including any ones choice religion !

Lenny

AS Mads states in her last sentence the prices are negotiated between the operators and the resort and not all are the same.I sometimes get a better single price direct from the resort instead of any Canadian operators.

Lenny

Strange , I top up a few phones now and again BUT mostly for people that barter for the amount I spend , however every one of them send me a text right away to say thanks. Also the friends I do take stuff for always thank me.
All the guys at the shack thank me constantly for pushing their lobster shack on the forum and asking for fishing stuff and strings for them.
Lenny

I just spoke to a friend that booked for Feb 8th 1 week $988 all in per person !! That’s a good deal IF it’s up and running like it should , however you will still be in the middle of a construction zone. lol
Lenny

Have been watching the progress of this disgusting monstrosity since it started ! It has created a huge ecological nightmare in the area and should NEVER have been built. IMORumor has it that when it opens Melia may drop one of their properties on Coco & one on Guillermo .It is within easy walking distance to Playa Prohibida ( Lenny;s Bar & Grill ) so of course they all like it as it will bring even more Yuma’s to their spot.

Lenny

Once again the Sunwing Supervisor for the Cayo Coco & Cayo Santa Maria areas is trying to organize excursions to the local games in Santa Clara & Ciego de Avila. If interested check with a Sunwing rep , they also do the same in some other areas.
