Go ahead , use US $ for about everything, normally any taxes are included in your ticket, as such there is no departure tax charged ( we were there in Feb this year ) Sorry , can’t help with E mail or map, or restauarnt, you might try trip advisor Montego Bay forum for some help with those questions

I was there in 2008, took a catamaran from Royal Decameron, it was very touristy as editor says, it was quite a trip up the falls, longer than you think, in the pictures you see on the net it only shows the start, we went up hand in hand , my buddy took a fall, skinned his knee pretty bad, the guides keep shouting at you a lot to keep moving, go this way that way etc. and they are not shy asking for tips at the top and all the way back down, I dunno how much money they think I had tucked in my bathing suit?? Might not be suitable for any one with limited movement, or tto old like me ( 62 ) LOL. That being said , glad I did it. Thay should have a T shirt for old farts that say I made it up Dunn’s falls. Anyway you should experience it. I believe you can get a private tour during off hours but not sure, you should ask that on here
Have a ball, Jemik

Had a lot more fun in Jamaica, been to Dominican 3 times, both Punta CAna and Puerto Plata, both very nice , nothing wrong there but Jamaica has more appeal to me , my opinion only !! It might be the people, or the culture, not sure. Either way , DR or JAmaica, win win

shaca, I asked the same question for the same reasons in 2007, the answer was spring break at Barcelo is watched quite closely by this resort , they have restricitions on who can book there ( as in age restrictons ) , adults in the rooms required, I think Cancun is a more desirable for spring breakers, long story short, I was told not to worry, breakers are not welcomed there, more of a family resort, and really really big , and really really very nice .

monctonguy, I too have to the DR a few times, and , just my opinion, the locals in Jamaica seem to have a more agressive type of approach, and be more persistent. Again, you gotta learn you gotta learn to say no. This doesn,t mean I wouldn’t go back to Jamaica, in fact our next trip will be JAmaica, a group of 12 people, so you can tell Jamaica good things outweigh the small bad things. ;D

Now don’t get upset and yell at me , but I would love it if someone made up a list of abbreviations and the corresponding meanings or places ;D ;D, so us non cuba pros follow threads like this
Hi and welcome to the forum , I have been to Jamaica once ( last year in April ) , like everywhere else in the Caribbean, bargining seems to be the norm, I usually start off at 1/2 price and go from there, like you I don’t relish that part of the vacation, but have been to a lot of destinations, and now I really don’t bring a lot off stuff back, gifts to families usually end up at garage sales ;D ;D
You might find vendors in Jamaica a bit more agressive though, learn to just say NO and have fun you will love it there
Anyone on here ever been? Thinking about going in mid November and would love some feedback
Wow group travel, trying to get 8 to 10 people to agree on a resort, get the same vacation time, live together ( practicaly ) for a week and still come back home friends, I’ve done it 3 times and it has worked out every time, that being said there are so many variables in tha equation but I guess the end result in the fun you can have with that many people ;D ;D
Was in Jamaica last year in March at the Royal Decameron Runaway BAy. A small and dated resort about a 45 minute drive from Montego Bay. This resort was very clean, excellent food and great staff, dancing by the pool every night. We were a group of 9 people and had a ball, really like Jamaica, went on the dunn’s river falls thing, snorkeling off the catamaran. Ocho Rios and Bob Marley ttour, ( rented a van locally ) . The beach at this resort is small ( actually three small beaches ) so not a beach lovers spot. . I like the smaller resorts where you get to know the and this was one of them. Planning a return trip next year maybe to Negril or Ocho Rios ;D. Hope this helps

I totally agree with cubajunkie, Iberostar Varadero 8-), not too far from Varadero, ( by cab or bus ) ;D

I also have been to Mexico a few times ( cancun 3 and Mayan Riveria 1 ) While I do love Cuba, trust me, you will not be dissapointed with Mexico ! !!
there’s one in every crowd it’s " All my bags are packed, Im ready to goIm standing here outside your doorI hate to wake you up to say goodbyeBut the dawn is breakin, its early mornThe taxis waiting, hes blowin his hornAlready Im so lonesome I could cry. " ;D ;D ;D

Enjoy Cuba, didn’t make it this year but already palnning for 2010

Thanks prrollt, I did manage to get a few pics of the beach from TA ;D

looking good

I’m goin in

Hi all, I really like this resort but have heard that the beach ( it wasn’t very big to begin with ) has eroded quite a bit
Anyone have any first hand current knowledge of this?? Air Canada Vacations even has an important notice regarding this that you must read before you proceed to book.
Thinking of heading that way soon, anyone able to help ?
Thanks all, after careful consideration I think we will stick with the b us, that way I am sure we will get there safe ;D and a lot less crowded than all of us stuffed in a cab
