Hi Rockk62,I would not pay for Wyndam…I would go to Hotel Cozumel with or with out meals. You are close to town and you can have a meal outside of the hotel if the buffet is no good. The other options that is a bite more money are Melia to the north or El CozumelenosAll inclusive and much better.Have fun in the sun

Hi Dfd,2 years ago we paid 75 pesos pp to get in. Make sure you have a taxi that will come and pick you up before you go all the way down there. The first time we went down with a taxi and the told us once their he could not come pick us up. This taxi at the entrance of Akumal have the monopole on the tourist so stop on your way in and make arrangements to send someone at a certain time.Enjoy

Hi,This is the Allegro (formally from Occidental) It was sold to a German company last month and was changed of name for more confusion into travelers mind. The have started to do some renovation from what we saw last September. Friends of ours were staying there and said that you could see the new management was taking over the guide slowly then.Have fun in the sunLyne

Hi Lovepcbeaches,At the El Coz or Melia in the North part of the Island you will find good beach to walk on and good snorkeling.I Have been to Akumal and what youe ill find in Cozumel is much better. On the west side of the island you have no wave or lot of snorkelers coming in to murk the water. It’s easy to rent a car on Cozumel for the day or time you are going to be there and go to the money bar (dzul ha)Have a look at my last 2 trip photos and you will see nice stuff only snorkeling from El Coz, Melia, Money bar and Chakanab park.

You will enjoy Cozumel very much.Lyne, Gatineau Canada

Hi Laur0406,You girls should go any of the 4 stars at a good price close to Playa Del Carmen. You will have all kinds of places to go dancing at night, very nice beach, will be safe and will be walking distance to all of the fun Mexico can offer you.NO CASINO in Mexico it’s illegal. If you go to the big places on Riviera Maya you are going to pay a lot in taxi to too PDC.Another good place to go to for young ladies like you is a small hotel in Mazanillo on the west cost of Mexico. It’s called Club Maeva. They have all sort of crazy games in the pool and out. Great out door shows at night and great staff of 45 GO’s, Sports and many other tips of activities. All the vlla are built into the mountain and the higher you go the better the view to the ocean is. They have a nice Tropical club and discotheque that goes on till the we hours of the night. We did our first trip to Mexico there and have been going for the past 15 years ever since. Now we are more laid back and golfers so we go to Cozumel.Hope this helps :o) Lyne

Hi Lin04,I’m also talking about the nice fluffy one…I don’t like the bright colors one also.Look at them closely and ask for the premium quality…You will see they are going to be coming from the back of the store not the front. Sometime they are limited in the number they have and you will see what I mean by thing tread. They are still very soft but they stay together nice and don’t shrink. What do you thing Mexicans use on the chili nights in their bed?Have fun shopping.LyneGatineau, Canada
Hi everyone,The less you pay the more it will shrink. Rene is right the material they use in them $5.00 blanket is not preshrunk. If you want a good blanket you will find them in PDC or Cozumel. You should pay for a good one about $15.00 and when you look at it the yarn should be woven very thing together. If it has any kind of loose end it will shrink at some point regardless at how you maintain it.I have 2 of them, that we us in the leaving room all the time and wash and dry in the machine in cold water. They come out very nice every time.Good luckLyne

P.s. in Cozumel don’t by one of the water front they sell the bad ones their go back in the Mercado across the plaza and ask for the good one.

Hi wpggirl,Your parents will love it…personally I would stay at the Barcelo before the Gala. Barcelo has a better discount at the course and is less family oriented.Very good service at the course and very challenging.Have fun in the sunLyne

Hi Lin04,Got the deal when I book my vacation in August and got the suitcase last week. The beach bag is good and well made, the blanket is not bad but the pillow was deflating, the tumblers both leak and have coffee in between the two walls, the saving voicher is very hard to use if you book on line because they can’t be applied to the prices you see, the belt and tag never had any use for them but you never know. The case is very roomy and I will try it this week to go to Montreal. It roles very well and holds everything I need for a week. For $39.88 it was a good deal.

Have in the sun

Hi bcsapphire,Not really a place for snorkeling. The beach is expose to the full ocean waive coming in and some days it can be pretty choppy water in front of the hotel. In front of the Akumal they have a bit of a reef but someone from the hotel is watching it constantly because to many guest have been stealing coral or caught in the waive and throne against it and got hurt pretty bad.For snorkeling you will have to go to Xel ha or Xcaret. They are fresh water rivers coming to the ocean and have a pretty go sample of fish and turtles coming their. Go early in the morning because around 10 am it get all sort of tour buses coming in and the water gets murky. Have fun and enjoy,Lyne

Hi Crestfield,If you love Cuba….you want to try Cozumel. You have a flight from Halifax every week and you will get the same feeling then Cuba. It’s also an island but it’s close to PDC. You will find your Mexican experience very rewarding in Cozumel and will want to go back.MR is a great place but to touristy it has lost it Mexican flavor. You will not be able to take to the the staff at the Bahia Principe or the Paladium the are very big resort and your will feel crowded very quickly. The beaches in Cozumel are like the ones you know withe sandy beaches.Have a look at our 2 last trip report and you will see what I’m talking about.

Hi Deputy and Jack,We always book the Deluxe ocean-view and every year we end up in the tower on the 7th floor. Great rooms, more spacious and because of how high room is you have great sound from the ocean. Great view of the cruise ship coming in the morning.Last winter when we were down…the talk about the pier was already started. Has you know because of the nortes the wind brings down to the pier of the El Coz a pile of see weed. The request for the pier has been made by the hotel and a new hotel to replace the Sol cabanas. Will they ever get them that is another story. When you talk to the people that leave on the island it takes for ever just to get a phone hook up or cable for your TV. Maybe the employees were just saying that to calm down the guest I don’t know.In 6 tips we saw for the first time in September what the murky water look like and we where staying at the El Coz. ;DSo Jack I will be waiting for you on the beach by the beach bar in March when you come in just ask for Colombo. My husbands name is Christian Coulombe and they alway call us Colombo ;DBy the time you come in we will have 4 rounds of golf under our belt and should be pretty dark. Can’t wait to go down. Next week I get my new hip and can’t wait to see this pain go away.I will have plenty of work to do to learn to walk and golf before, we have fun in the sun on Dec 30th.Stay safe

If you need more convincing this is more pictures we have for past trips

Hi Deputy,We are staying at Melia for both trips. It would be fun to finaly meet someone from the board.

See under the sun

Hi Deputy,Nice to see you back? At Chen rio take to William and ask him for the seafood tray. You have freach catch of the day. It is to die for with salade, hot bread, lime, avocado, lobser tails, camarones, red snaper, mahi mahi, calamarer and conch.it’s a good meal for 4 for $50.00 usd + beer. When are you thinking about going to Cozumel? We are going twice Dec 30th til Jan 6th and Feb 29th till March 14th. Maybe will see you there.

Hi Jake,You are right about asking many different people of what they think.Right now you can book flight and hotel separately because Sunquest blackout of Cozumel this season. But you can buy the Melia for cheaper then El Coz packages. For 2 weeks flight from Ottawa /Toronto/Cozumel on Air Canada + insurance + 14 days at the Melia Deluxe room for $4558.46 CDN we had pay with Sunquest before the cancellation $4956.92 + 276.64 = 5233.56 and needed to buy a flight into Toronto + one night stay in Toronto because de flight was at 6h20 on the Friday am.So sometime you need to shop to really get a good deal. Melia and El Cozumeleño are 2 very fine hotels. I would stay at Melia for 2 reason we are golfers and we can get a golf package at Melia co-owner with Playa Azul a golf packages of $250.00 for 5 round last year. At El Coz have no packages and the round cost us in low season $95 usd per round per person. We can also go to one of the 2 a la carte as often as we like and generally no line ups to do to make a reservation. Like I said great advantage because most line up for the restaurant at El Coz are sold out before 10am.These might be details for some one else but for us very important. Both places has fancy drinks and cold beer on tap or bottle. Yes do stay in one of the hotels up north if you want to do the buck beer and “people watching in town” You will save a bundle on taxi fares. The murky water issue only happens at Melia when the winds are from the North. What the Mexicans call “Nortes”. These are more frequent in the fall to late January when we get the Canadian North winds and the wind shield factors dive the thermometer to -25c. Florida has frozen oranges and Melia gets the murky water.Your group will be happy at any of these hotels.Have a look at the photo presentation we have and pick your place.

See you in Coz and have fun in the sun.P.s. after Cozumel you will not go back to Mayan Riviera

Hi Jake,The El Cozumel is a family oriented hotel especially for March…food is good but if you want variety you need to order from the menu. When the hotel is busy it can take quite some time to get your food. The a la carte restaurant is once a week. Godd show at night and good service from the dive shop. One thing to do at El Coz is the sunset cruise very entertaining. I have been to both hotels and you will not find any hotel in Cozumel with the same type of setup has Bahia. If you want good quality you have the south end of the Island with Occidental Grand, Allegro, Iberostar. North you only have Melia that compare in quality of food.We will be in Cozumel for the 4th time this year from December 30 till Jan 6th. We are also going back on Feb 29th till March 14th.So you can consider me has the Coz nut ;DYou will get a very good service regardless of the hotel you pick.

Have fun in the sun

Hi Bronx3300,You need to go into town for the Sunday night family fun on the main plaza. You will enjoy dancing in the street and the Mexican tradition behind. You can also try one of the local cuisine at Casa Denis that his one of the best and oldest restaurant on the plaza. Meal for two with beer will run you under $50.00 and will kill the buffet blues.

Hi,Just my 2 cents …. the American dollar is well accepted but did you know that your like pesos better then US. Talk to them if you have a chance they have to pay a fee to transfer the money back in pesos.Has Mexicans they can not use that currency to pay for something in a store so they loose on the exchange. If you are a Canadian you would be a fool to transfer your money in US and then back in peso your will lose twice on your money. Use the back machine once you are over their any of them will give your the rate of the day and you will get your money’s worth.

Have fun in the sun
