We’re planning a trip to Roatan next January and are considering renting a house on the beach. I’ve looked at VRBO and the prices are pretty good.
We’ve checked the reviews for resorts and none of them look GREAT. E.G. at Henry Morgan, it appears that the noise might be an issue. One of the reviews I read said that "the rooms are interconnected via wooden walkways, which at night can sometimes be noisy as they tend to vibrate and make a lot of noise as guests walk past at night. In addition, we had a ground floor room, and again the wooden floors above are very noisy when people walk about late at night or early morning". Has anyone here rented a beach house or if not perhaps you could give me some advice regarding your resort experience. BTW, we are mid 50’s. Love great beaches and spending quiet time together. Enjoy good food and local bar/restaurants. Love to snorkle. Not looking for party/hearty experience Any advice anyone can give will be much appreciated. Thank you! |

Hola Ac2Here is a link to Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. It gives travel reports and warnings for different Countries. I have opened the Honduras link for your reviewing.
www.voyage.gc.ca/dest/report-en.asp?country=121000 I am not sure how safe it is to rent a house on the beach if it is not in a secured area. Guards usually are present at resorts during the night time for the tourists safety. The site I have provided does talk about ‘Home Invasions’ so you may want to look into hiring a guard for the evenings or perhaps there are houses on the beach to rent that are in some kind of a gated community with guards present. As for the ‘Henry Morgan’, one evening we did hear people walking back to their rooms but this was not really a big issue for us. There are areas near the back end of the resort that will have less traffic. we also seen a room in behind ours that was just a double cottage so there would be no traffic other than the people in the room beside you.Apparently ‘Henry Morgan’ is building another resort in Honduras on the other end of the Island. It is suppose to be opened next year and cater to Canadian and Americans. Warren and I are keeping our eyes peeled for this new resort to be advertised on the internet.Good luck with renting a house on the beach for your vacation. I hope it all works out for you. Let us know if you decide to rent a house or try a resort for your trip. Freedom Ryder 8-)………………… |

Freedom Ryder, Thanks for your very fast response! Great information! With safety being an issue, think we’ll go the resort route for our first visit and check out beach rentals/security while we’re there.
Thanks again! |

![]() Thanks again! Hola Ac2I think that is a wise decision to head to a resort first and then see what is available in the way of beach houses to rent. Perhaps you can talk to the locals as well as other tourists that have considered renting a cottage and find out how secure and safe the beach houses are.The resort workers may also be able to give you some contact names and addresses of owners that rent out properties.
