The Hotel Santa Clara Libre was clean, centrally located, and overall quite comfortable as long as you’re not expected a four-star experience. Service was generally slow and lacklustre (not uncommon in Cuba), although one or two staff members were very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was small and the shower usually provided hot water. A pretty decent breakfast buffet was included. Slept very well and could not hear noise from the discotheque, as some other reviewers had mentioned, perhaps because I was on one of the lower floors (the nightclub I think being on the 11th floor). Stayed here mid-April and there were plenty of rooms available — probably no need to book in advance. We stayed an additional night the following week to catch our flight out of Santa Clara, and the rate was lower booking on-site rather than online.
Overall — this is decidedly a two-star hotel, so as long as you’re expecting that, you won’t be disappointed. I would stay here again.

Arrival:
Took almost 25 minutes to check in (we had already booked the rooms online) — service was very slow for the clump of people ahead of us. A little bit frustrating.
Rooms:
Small but very clean, fairly reliable hot water. We had front-facing room with a good view of Parque Vidal from the window. Hallway noise could be bothersome if other guests were loud in entering/leaving their rooms, but otherwise very quiet.
Restaurants and Bars:
Great view from the 10th-floor restaurant. Only ate breakfast here (included with nightly rate); like most Cuban food, it was nothing to write home about, but was overall not bad.
Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The building is historic, complete with revolutionary bullet holes. The tallest building in Santa Clara, so it’s easy to find.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
N/A.
