Scubadiving knife…Which one to get | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

I use Scubapro Mako Titanium, it’s a great knife, small, light and compact which I carry in a pocket. I also carry some small shears sometimes.

Very Important, remember this when buying a scuba knife !!

In scuba folk-law, they say the size of your dive knife is a reflection on the size of your manhood….this might explain a thing or two why my wife always looks disapointed as my knife is just over 2 inches long

It still makes me smile when I see divers with a ten inch knife strapped to their leg, shining it up before a dive so everyone can see it….who are you are you trying to kid mate ! Been watching too many James Bond films !No worries, $50.00 is more than enough to spend on a decent knife. For me, the one you have mentioned is too long. I like to be as streamed lined and weight free as possible. I only like to carry exactly what I need for diving, and if I can get something that is small and light weight, but is still durable and can do the job that it is designed to do, then I will go for that option personally.I see they have a Blue Reef 3” titanium knife which are pretty cool and is only $39.95 (list $72.95). I had one of these but left it on a boat in Phi Phi, but this would be my first choice for a $50 knife.

LOL I have a buddy that always jokes on small items; He says: hey! it’ keeps ME happy… ;D ;D

thanks for your advice and link… one question though… where do you keep your knife if you don’t strap it? In the pocket of your bc?

I usually have it in a shoulder strap or on my travel wing, I have a little pocket and keep it in there. Rarely use it to be honest but have it with me in case of getting tangled in discarded fishing nets etc that can be caught on wrecks or reefs.

thanks again

Good shout Dax, everyone should own a GoPro….diver or not… lol. Best invention since the wheel and Scubapro’s MK25 A700’s ;D

Best invention since the wheel and Scubapro’s MK25 A700’s ;D yes thanks for posting Dax…I like the GoPro… Only issue for me is you need to have the back pack for it ( to see what it is I am filming) and at times the fish eye lens is not requirede and there is no option to film without it.

I like my new Olympus TG1 for all it’s worth. ;D

Now what is this wheel and Scubapro’s MK25 A700’s: Man another toy… the difference between men and toys is the price of their toys :D. Is it really worth the $$ Wossa? Does it save that much more air and make it easier to breath??? thanks

[/quote][/i]Fisheye lens on the GoPro ? Are you using the original housing that comes with the older style Gopro (Hero & Hero 2), which has the fisheye style front lens port ? If so, these are not really suited to underwater as it distorts the image, you need to get a flat lens port housing as this will give you sharp images with no distortion. The new GoPro’s come with a flat lens port and are designed for taking underwater but the older housings had issues for Scuba diving. I also have a Hero 2 and brought a modified housing, with a flat lens port and pressure tested to 60 metres from ”eye of mine” and they are really good and work well.I have never used a back pack for mine, I just point it at what I want to film and as the angle of field is quite wide on the GoPro’s, it films pretty much what I want. I might head back to the Maldives or possibly back to the Sudan for a liveaboard soon, so I will use my GoPro a lot more than I have done in the past.I have been using the MK25 A700’s for around 4 years now and IMHO, they are the best regs you can get. It wont save you air as the volume of air you use is determined on how quick and heavy you breathe underwater…..but it will give you an easier breathe, especially at depth as first and second stages are very sensitive to demand. Just my own opnion of course…. ;D
