Does anyone expect demand for Cuba to go up now that Sunwing and Air Transat have cancelled flights TO Mexico for the next month…or will all demand go down cause nobody will want to travel in the close quarters of an airplane. We always seem to get a dry cough after flying on planes.

Sunwing has jacked up prices since this morning. From economic perspective re supply and demand it makes sense, but from a business, or future business perspective, it is a poor decision for Sunwing to bump prices. |

Isn’t this just weasely!!! "At Transat, affected customers will be given the option of rebooking on a later date or travelling to another destination, the company said. However, passengers must cover the difference if the rebooked vacations are more expensive and will not receive refunds if they are cheaper"

I believe Sunwing’s policy is the same.

It would not be surprising to see bookings for Cuba increase due to the problems in Mexico over the short haul, much like when Cuba got hit big time with hurricanes last Fall and lost out on visitors.

As victims of the Sunwing/Mexico situation, we have been very impressed with the accommodations being made to help passengers rearrange their travel plans. We were booked for the Mayan Riviera for Sunday departure, and were able to switch to Paradissus Rio de Oro for Tuesday. There was no price differential. We had thought that Jamaica might be an option, but it was going to cost us $900 per person. Sunwing only goes to Mexico, Jamaica and Cuba in May. DR was not an option, so we consider ourselves very fortunate to have been able to make a last minute change. Obviously there was a spot on the flight, and a room at the resort, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to switch, but I can’t be certain that everyone that wanted to change was able to. Some people have now delayed their plans. Only those with the SunWing insurance policy would be eligible for a refund. We use our credit card travel insurance, so unfortunately we were not covered for "pandemic" situations.

I noticed on my last minute deal that several on-line tour companies have sent me that Mexico is available to book on June 5th onward. In fact some of their deals are quite good, for example a four and a half resort in Mexico was going for $375CAD with AC and AT as the carriers. Hopefully that will cause the cost of the trips to Cuba to drop. Well we can all hope it does anyways.

This is a little bit OT but I have to get this off my chest My friend got back from Mexico a few days ago and feels absolutely great, but apparently there were a couple of swine flu cases on her flight. Anyway, upon hearing this her employer asked her not to come in for 7 days – she doesn’t even have to use her sick leave or anything! (I told her I am going to do a rain dance ;D ). |
