Tipping etiquette at the Royal Decameron | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

Hubby and I are looking at the Royal Decameron this December and I was wondering about tipping. In Cuba they were grateful for items of clothing, makeup, toiletries as well as cash, in the Dominican Republic we gave mainly cash.
Any suggestions/hints would be appreciated 11 weeks til…sunsunsun
I’d rather give cash but I found in Holguin, Cuba there were things that weren’t readily available or too expensive for them to buy. Amongst other items a friend gave sanitary items for the ladies doing the evening shows…very much appreciated. I have a problem with not having enough room in my luggage for all the "stuff" to give away. To each his own I guess

I don’t mind taking ‘stuff’ when you know where you are going they go without. Especially school stuff. There is some satisfaction when you are able to donate school items where they are needed. As for Panama, go with a stack of U.S. ones.
BebbieNo not actually booked sitting on the fence, I have it narrowed down to PP in Cuba or RD in Panama? Will take plenty of US ones though if we do go to Panama…thank you for your advice. I haven’t been to Panama and assume the weather/water will be warmer. TA suggested we wait until the end of Oct to book but I keep checking the web for deals. I’m sure I’ll have lots more questions if that’s the side of the fence I should end up on ;D

SSS:Cuba and Panama are like comparing oranges to apples……there is no comparison. I would guess that the weather and definitely the water would be alot warmer in Panama. December is the start of their dry season. Mind you, where Royal Decameron is located they don’t get as much rain as the rest of Panama. Cuba has Panama beat though for beaches. Keep in mind that the Royal Decameron is on the Pacific side….dark water.

I am in the exact same boat as you, Playa Pesquero in Cuba or the RD in Panama. I spent two weeks at the PP last November. Looking this year at late November at either the PP in Cuba or the Royal Decameron in Panama. [glow=red,2,300]Just waiting for the right price[/glow].

zeuszeusIf I see a good price for either I’ll let you know…What weeks are you looking at? The sales for the end of Nov. should be coming up soon. I am leaning towards Panama for something different. BebbieHave you been to both resorts? If so, do you know how the resorts themselves compare? What is the food like in Panama, is there herbs/spices and flavor? In your opinion what is the RD’s best dish and in which restaurant? thank you

Sunsunsun: I am looking at two weeks, either leaving November.19th or the 26th. The Playa Pesquero is going for $1645/single, leaving on November.20 and returning on December.4. I am also looking at Panama for something slightly different, though I could find no fault with the PP last November.
SSS, I have not been to both resorts. When we went to Cuba we stayed at the Barcelo Solymar.I am not a food connoisseur by any means. IMO the food is good. The Thai restaurant serves excellent food, same with the El Canal (we had a dish called crumbly shrimp which was breaded shrimp with mashed potatoes). We did the Japanese restaurant too, which was very good.

I am a food lover…not a connoisseur by any means. It is nice to to have a couple of good meals at the ala cartes as a change from the buffet. I love Thai, seafood, Japanese…yummy! My TA said the restaurants are very good at the RD.
Thanks
There are several a la cartes at this resort and I believe we have tried them all, except for the Catch of the Day. In the past when booking the a la carte you can see what the menu of the day is. Some of them change, believe it or not.
